The Electric - Didn't Cha Know
Artist: The Electric
Featuring: Add-2
Producer: DJ Vadim, Keys by Ste Keys
Album: Hey You Guys! Mixtape
Label: OGS
After two acclaimed features, readers may think they’ve learned all there is to know about The Electric but, in reality, there’s more to the globetrotting trio than meets the eye. No, DJ Vadim, Pugs Atomz and Sabira Jade aren’t robots in disguise (as far as I’m aware); beneath their glossy pop exterior, though, they share a powerful affection for the exotically smooth grooves of Erykah Badu. Making its world premiere here in the Booth, the crew’s latest leak finds them putting a hip-hop spin on the neo-soul songstress’ 01 single Don’t Cha Know. Over Vadim’s tweaked, reggae-infused take on the original beat (complete with keys by Ste Keys), Pugz enlists a few talented cohorts for a laid-back rhyme session; joining him on the guest tip are fellow Chicagoans Add-2, Qwazaar and Wes Restless, along with UK femcee Yarah Bravo. Sabira Jade ties it all together in characteristically soulful fashion, performing a strong rendition of Badu’s chorus. This inspired cover/reworking is just one of many fresh selections set for inclusion on The Electric’s Booth-sponsored Hey You Guys! mixtape, set to hit our mixtape page Feb. 10.

I don't care much for Erykah Badu, but I respect her work as an artist. Obviously, so do The Electric. This is a real nice spin on her work. Compliments to the chef.

God this one is killing me. On one hand this Badu record is legitimately one of my all time favorites - this this is what my baby daughter listens to all-time favorites.
So on the one hand I'm automatically wary of any changes, but on the other I have to say they really did the original justice. Let's even it out at a three. |

I don't know how to feel about it. I'm a heavy Erykah Badu fan, so she's a tad sacred to me. Then again I can appreciate them bringing their own sound and individuality to it.
