Those who follow my track reviews know that I have a taste for (sometimes awful) puns, but this Virginia-bred, North Carolina-based emcee seems to have done my job for me.  In addition to calling himself Edgar Allen Floe (my second favorite rapper name in Booth history, next to “Fidel Cashflow”), the Booth newcomer’s preparing to drop an EP titled Mighty Floe Young. The title track and latest single off the project finds the Justus League member in Booth-approved company, delivering round after round of lyrical ammunition in between equally bracing opening and closing bars by, respectively, producer-turned-emcee Nottz and Detroit powerhouse Royce Da 5’9”. J. Wheels backs the track with a beat as bombastic as the collaborators’ verses, pairing fiery organ chords with booming percussion and showcasing his turntablism skills on the sampled hook. With a sound as enormous as its cinematic namesake, Mighty Floe Young is sure to score points with readers who prefer their hip-hop loud, aggressive, and lyrically edgy. Those digging this cut can hear more on the forthcoming EP, due out sometime this December.

This is the kind of underground old-school record that I would play on repeat during my college radio days. This is what hip hop is all about: simplistic beat, cold hard rhymes, witty punchlines, and emcees not going through the proverbial motions.

I don't remember Edgar Allen Floe rapping like this before. He's much better now. And Royce is always sick and the beat is sick and it's a banger.

Pretty good track, had my head nodding and Royce nickel nine came hard. 3.5 but rounding up because it's not mainstream bs.

DJ Z called it. There will always be a place for people who drop quality hard rhymes, and Edgar Allen Floe is creating his own lane with tracks like this. Good ish.
