Fashiggadell, DJBooth readers, West Coast wordsmith E-40 has returned with the Lil’ Jon-produced street single Break Ya Ankles. Featuring the currently-ethered Shawty Lo, the record is a heatrock headed straight for the clubs. 40’s bounce-a-delic flow perfectly complements the King of Crunk’s Casio keyboard-flavored goodness, tastefully making this hip hop jambalaya “slap” to perfection. While this ATL-to-The Bay tag team track does suffer from formulaic production, sometimes it’s just damn fun to go dumb. If Break Ya Ankles is any indication of what listeners can expect from his latest effort, The Ball Street Journal, then the slangologist should have mo’ feddachini and chips to stack come October.

E-40 making his way back into the light and coming up with Lil' Jon's smooth production. I can easily see this as a radio hit in no time... it's E-40. Shawty Lo was flawless, not bad...

Shawty Lo= Worst rapper, I mean musician I mean, well actually he is neither a rapper or a musician, Dude is a Joke. He gives Soulja Boy a run for his money. Make sure u cop TI's Paper Trail September 30th. The King back!

I hate to say it, but this sound is dated. I'm not feelin this at all. Especially following up the classic groundbreaking west coast album My Ghetto Report Card. This ain't hittin on shit for me.

Lil Jon is finally coming back from behind the curtain. LOL...where he been? E-40 should have let Shawty Lo chill fam. He didn't need him. But I agree, this sounds like 2004 or something. The "Snap Yo Fingers" era has sort of passed at the movement. This definitely isn't a breakout first single like "Tell Me When To Go" was for "My Ghetto Report Card"

Well the beat isn't horrible but the rest is! I think the same of many of you, Lil' Jon really needs to change sounds...In every song by him I hear "Yeah"! He could evolve just like every good artist does. Useless song and also very repetitive

Could E-40 be at the point in his career where radio success if wholly dependent upon his features? Akon on the first single and Shawty Lo on the second single does scream HELP...especially from an artist who never used to collab much for singles. I like 40 Water, but my city (Chicago) won't be lovin' this one at all.

First of all, anything that E-40 does is a CLASSIC! This man been in the game for 20years because he's always been wayyyyy ahead of his time. The world is still catchin up on the shit he did in 1995...Maybe I'm a little bias....but, I'm @*#$! with anything that E-40 does, since he's my Uncle40 and the fact that I've heard this entire album and can't wait for the release.
To DJZ: This isn't 40's second single. This is just a club leaker....just wait for the album homey. You'll be happy bro. All the best bruhbruh. Peace, Thug & Pro$$$perity, RHYTHMX/$ickWid'It Records/ One Block Radius Road Manager/Mercury/Island/DefJam |

i agree with the write up..the production is suffering but you can go so dumb to this..you can go brain dead to this...it makes me feel stupid just listening to it. I feel like bangin my face on my keyboard and getting stoopid. i'll probably put this on my ipod then throw a honey bun at your grandma..jump off the roof of 7eleven and brake my ankles.

IMO, the so called "Hyphy Movement" has absolutely ruined E-40. What happened to classic E-40..Hall of Game, etc?! I haven't enjoyed an E-40 track in years.. and this says alot, because he used to be one of my favorite rappers. This is a bit better than some of his other recent singles, but still..

I'm sorry, but this one isn't gonna do very well in my book. As a person that's from the Bay Area, his is pretty lame. First off, bad idea to put Shawty Lo on the song. E-40 did okay, but it was over a Lil' Jon beat that sounds like he was messin around his PC and found a beat from like 4 years ago.
