A strong underground name for the past twenty years, it’s only fitting that E-40‘s eleventh studio album, The Ball Street Journal, will be released on the November 11 (which also happens to be Veterans’ Day). Despite the pop-motivated drive of the previously-featured Turf Drop, Wake It Up, and Break Ya Ankles, the Ambassador of the Bay still sees the streets as his primary demographic, and on The Recipe, 40 Water takes listeners back to his In A Major Way days. As the recently re-incarcerated Gucci Mane shows us (again) what goes on in his trap house, Chef Boy-ar-Bun B focuses on his recipe for trillness. Pour all three over Poli Paul‘s cooking-show samples; let it sizzle for about a month and a half, and voila, you have yourself a bona-fide underground hit!
I like E-40 and i know he's know for his creativity but this is one garbage song. Wow!! A song for making drugs?? E-40 can do better than this and then he features one of the wackest overrated rapper in gucci. The chorus is straight stupid with the lady. This gotta be one of the worst songs on djbooth in the last year!!
Hahahaha! The cooking lady vocal sample was genius! LOL. That definitely made me smile. E-40 always keeps it creative. I don't condone cooking crack though...not at all. But this is a pretty interesting song. This definitely sounds like throwback E-40. His flow on here sounds the best since "My Ghetto Report Card". His recent stuff wasn't really moving me, but this is a real nice street anthem. I never was a fan of Gucci Man. He sounds like a congested, less excited version of Jeezy on this one. Bun B's metaphorical subject approach was the best on here. The beat stands out more than all the emcees. Pretty hilarious.

Whether or not this song is in bad taste, it really is no different that viewing or renting a movie that has to do with the sale/creation of cocaine or any other drug. It's for entertainment purposes... the only problem is that it isn't very entertaining. I like Bun B, but he didn't impress here. I would have preferred 40 do the whole track solo.

On HBO's documentary "The Black List" Al Sharpton explains the progression of Black music, saying how you never heard the slaves singing about working in the fields or their masters abusing them even tough it was their reality, and how now in the hip-hop minstrel show we're willing to rap about the most horrible circumstances people live in and try to justify it, saying we're just telling it how it is without offering any sort ideas as to how to rise out of these dire straits. Maybe this track is supposed to be ironic or sarcastic (doubtful) but if it is it should be more clear what the intentions are. Expecting more from ourselves is being real. Blaming the government for one's own decision to poison your own people is pathetic.
