This October, Bay Area icon E-40 will release his tenth solo album, The Ball Street Journal. While building up a rather extensive catalog over the past sixteen years, 40 has become well-known for his lyrically-delectable party jams, which cater towards his hyphy-loving West Coast fanbase. On the first official single from his forthcoming LP, however, the rapper born Earl Stevens has decided to change it up. On Wake It Up, the emcee is joined by Akon (who provides both a hook and production assistance) for a radio-request-worthy ladies jam. Unlike the previously-released Turf Drop, which only appealed to a localized Bay Area audience, Wake It Up plays to the satisfaction of hip hop listeners from coast to coast.

Tenth album huh? Dang. E-40 is definitely a veteran. I'm digging that album title. Very clever. Akon's production sounds the same as usual. He's decent on the hook. I can tell that E-40 changed it up a bit. He's rapping a lil more clear now. LOL. This isn't bad, but it isn't really great either. I've give it 3 stars.

This song reminds me that Akon makes hits, but as always E40 is pretty wack. Akon is alot better than T-Pain, and if you say different just remember that if it wasn't for Akon, TPain would make money for a few reasons.
1. hes the only one who would sign him. 2. Akon is the first to make collaborations very popular, and hitmakers, which pretty sums up TPains whole career. |

Its gonna be hard for 40water to top that Ghetto reportcard! That album was classic! I really hate that turf talk song. This is a upgrade, but I want more. This is just ok. Doesn't keep that momentum of that album going. This is alright, but not bangin!

This is pretty nice right here and will cop his album. He switched his style a little bit to appeal nationally but Im liking it. E-40 is always clever with his lyrics and Akon is solid on the hook.

40 has been killing latley with his stuff and as a guest. I hope his next album is as good as his last one. Turf Talk was a good track. This is pretty good to but I like him over more hyphy beats. I'll still go dumb to this though. I just might be the only one

Pretty hot song. Im not getting the Bay vibe from this but its still a good look. Akon has a pretty strong hook, and E40 is just so damn unique that I gotta respect his style. 3/5

E-40 is smart with this one...with Akon on the hook its almost a guaranteed radio single so this track will definetly be in rotation. Beat is nice and simple too..and for 'TheGreatest'...ya some ppl think Akon is better than T-Pain but a lot of ppl might think otherwise and that is fair if they do but to almost say that Akon is better than Pain because Akon brought him up..i don't think that can be justified..you gotta pay respect to the one who brought you in but it's always possible for a student to surpass his teacher. If I didn't understand what you were tryin to say my bad.

I think this is different...it has a good music and beat, I like Akon and E-40 flows good, but I'm not really feeling the voicebox...yeah it's weird Akon used it, I prefer his normal voice, though

hiphop613, u did understand me, and actually i think u won the arguement. lol. Personally i can listen to Akon and i cant stand T-Pain, but T-Pain does need to remember how much he owes Akon. Without Akon it is a fact he would have never benn signed.

People do you realize that this man right here is responsible for about 80 to 95 percent of the lingo that is used in the the hip-hop world. He is one of the best rappers in the world. An to the greatest Akon isn't the first to make collaborations popular do you know who Nate Dogg is?

E-40 is one of those rappers where you love his style or you hate it, because his rapping style is similar on almost all of his songs. I think he's tight. Akon has a catchy chorus here and 40 has a solid performance in my opinion.
