After years of under-the-radar work, R&B/soul singer Dwele must be hoping that his guest appearances on singles by Common (The People) and Kanye West (Flashing Lights) will be his big-name ticket to stardom. Undaunted by the closing of his former label, Virgin Records, the Detroit native has found a new home with well-known mid-major Koch Records and will release his upcoming third studio album, Sketches of a Man. On the album’s first single, Dwele admits ”I’m Cheatin’,” and that it must stop immediately. While some might assume by his admission that he has a death wish, Sacramento producer G-1‘s smooth guitar beat relaxes the mood and calms the emotion. Sketches of a Man is set for release on June 24.
Like it. Has a bit of the rnb swagga that I'm used to hearing back in the early 2000s. Though I can see how some people would feel this style is dated, I'm still digging it. To be honest I'm kinda surprised how good Dwele is on this track. The guitar blips are a nice throwback for me.
"Or we can take it to the D where Dwele dwell"! The boy Dwele is back . He always delivers on eveything he does. No doubt. I feel it needed a little more though. The hook should have had way more vocal layers in my opinion. But this is solid.
99% of the members who listen to this song and leave feedback will A) not know how to pronounce this man's name and B) front based on the outstanding early feedback. Check the man's resume... he is solid; always has been.
no frontin here. i saw him featured on The People and Flashing Lights but i wasn't sure when he was actually singing lol. this song could grow on me after several more spins. will i spin it that much?? hmmm
I'm totally into r&b music, but not into this song! It's soo monotonous, the chorus is only g-girl, girl, g-girl, cheatin...not feeling this at all sorry
I've been knowin' about Dwele for a minute. He is an under the radar artist but if you're from Detroit, you should know who he is. This joint is soo smooth and laidback. It's a nice balance from all the crunk music here. I like it a lot. Don't cheat y'all ;)
It's a hit, period!! And people should hate on it cause its a good song!! LOL
And yes he is cheating on his girl!! listen to the lyrics again if you haven't already, maybe you might pick up something else.........
DJ Z: Thank you so much for putting Dwele on here...his voice is amazing and i love listening to him in the morning while im on the train on my way to work...This song doesn't really showcase his talent bc it is repetitive but if you don't know about him, you should def. check him out. I give this song a 3.5.
Man, it was all good until I heard the hook. The hook isn't very good at all. his vocals are good tho and the beat is decent, although it doesn't really fit the song topic to me.
wow big risk with this song. i know girls go crazy 4 a guy who can sing but im not 2 sure if they gonna feel a song thats bragin on ur cheatin skillz (unless ur usher). wit dat said, its still a nice song, chours not too bad, love the track, classic r&b. i would give it a 3 out of 5
Y'all still don't get the point, The lyrics is deep, he aren't cheating with another woman. Us fellows sometimes want our woman to do certain things but in reality we know they wont do it. so in his imaginary world he created a nasty girl in his girl's image doing nasty things fulfilling his fantasy. Thats the girl he's cheating with!!!!! HOT LYRICS, HOT FENDER RHODES, HOT GUITAR LICKS, CRAZY CONCEPT!! YOU THE MAN DWELE!!
oh and he has done other ends of the scale with love songs i think i love you from the subject album or keep on ft slum village i`m tellin ya check this dude out his good
R&B is all about the lyricism, so therefore the beat is mellow to make sure it doesn't overshadow his lyrical talents. It's a three cuz it's about cheatin.
When I listen again and listen closely to the lyrics, that's exactly what he's talkin' about. 'I'm cheatin' on my girl with my girl'. All I seen was 'I'm cheatin' and I assume he was talkin' about cheatin. But you're right eddie cantel.
man its amazin ho all dese ppl actin like he a new artist or sumthin...dwele been out for a min...its jus dat radio dnt give neo soul artists alot of play so u mite not have eva heard of him....but im feelin dis song...
Yup Me too! I like Dwele's music! He's a quality artist! This song is something I can listen to with my girl! Cheatin on my gf with my gf! Thats a different concept! Nice work.
Been pumpin' it daily from the 1st listen... Piece of artistic execution. Consistently Dwele's signature style.
"...I fell asleep with my love affair and woke up next to my girl..." Fresh concept indeed BDF44...
