I don’t know about everyone else, but if ever I needed motivational music, now is the time. With the gloomy Minneapolis winter in full swing, the idea of curling up in a cave and sleeping till spring is seeming more and more attractive with every passing day. For those who can’t afford to hibernate, though, the latest single from Dujeous, the NYC hip-hop septet who brought us Booth-exclusive freestyle Shuttle Bus, should provide a much-needed energy boost. Spectacular finds emcees Mojo, Mas D, and Rheturik spitting about the ambition that keeps them grinding when the going gets toughest, flowing over their bandmates’ compulsively head-nodding, piano-led groove. Topped off with an anthemic hook by veteran soul songstress Sharon Jones, this track oozes determination – in other words, it’s perfect to enjoy with coffee on a frigid, cloudy winter morning. Day In, Day Out, Dujeous’ sophomore full-length, isn’t set to drop till March 2010, but fans should watch for this single’s somewhat less upbeat B-side, Death and Taxes, to hit our front page next week.

I love when artists do all the work for me. This is where I inform you that the title of the record explains how I feel about it. Yup, that simple.

Sorry, I couldn't resist that. Anyway this is a tight underground record though.

Crazy Dujeous fan here (it's like having a favorite band and it happens to be imaginary, cuz I swear nobody I know ever heard of them...).
They always bring this amazing nonexistent vibe in Hip Hop with those brass and that's sayin a lot cuz they actually play their instruments! That guitar at the end was a coward move, come on! =) Beautiful! As for the rapping, it's like 3 of your favorite rappers decided to join a jazz band and start making music at it's best. Dope lyrics and delivery! |

I've never quite heard anything like Dujeous before. They're like a more upbeat Roots, and for the original sound along I'm on board. I've never seen em but I can almost guarantee they're amazing live. Not quite in the Ozomatli/Roots league, but damn enjoyable.
