Dujeous - Death & Taxes
Artist: Dujeous
Producer: Dujeous
Album: Day In, Day Out
Label: Dujeous, LLC.
To paraphrase the great Isaac Newton, every action has its equal and opposite reaction – and for Dujeous’ latest single, the uplifting Spectacular, that reaction is gloomy B-side Death and Taxes. Centered more on the latter topic than the former, this cut finds emcees Rheturik, Mojo the Cinematic and Mas D mourning the loss of their hard-earned dollars over their instrumentalist cohorts’ appropriately downbeat mix of muted brass, piano, and doleful electric guitar riffs. With a theme just about everyone can relate to and plenty of clever, quotable lines (“These n*ggas got my neck on the block like H&R”), this track is sure to strike a chord with cash-strapped listeners, but I can’t help but be a tiny bit disappointed that Dujeous didn’t look a little farther beyond their own pocketbooks; with taxes, economic injustice, and government spending at the forefront of the public consciousness, a broader perspective could have made for a truly powerful and timely record. As always, though, I’ll let Booth readers have the final say. If you like what you’re hearing, grab a copy of Dujeous’ sophomore LP, Day in, Day Out, when it drops in March 2010.

Nothing to really not like about this. The production works really well with all of their flows and the hook was tight.

The least of my intent is to reiterate what one of my cohorts has already hipped you to. Yet, on the same token, groups that are as talented as "Dujeous", deserves as much ink and praise as it can get!

This production is ridiculous, which seems to be the theme for today. These guys remind me of the grouch, eligh, and brother ali rolled in one...and this is a very good thing!
