We’ve been down this road before. A beloved artist promises that his next album will be his last, but years later we’re still seeing albums from the once supposed retiree (I’m looking at you Jay and Lupe). But for now we just don’t know if The-Dream will follow through on his promise to retire from solo work after his upcoming album, or end up Brett Farving, so we’ll have to treat every moment like it’s his last. Hence my excitement about his new single and title track Love King, a sparkling cut that includes every component of a trademark Dream smash hit: Production collabo with Tricky Stewart
L.O.S. Da Mystro? Minimal piano line? Softly crooned harmonies about lovely ladies? Plenty of “a, a, a,”s? Yep, all of the above. It’s nothing revolutionary, but I’ll be damned if I wasn’t loving every second. How about the rest of the Booth? We can expect the “Will he actually retire?” speculation to hit a fevered pitch when Love King drops sometime this May. Let the hype begin.

Wow. Love Vs Money was one of my favorite albums of the past decade. That piano reminds me of "Trading Places" except just a little quicker paced. I can't wait for this album. Song is classic.

The-Dream had always been one of those background artists for me. By that I mean that I had a few of his songs, but never listened to him regularly. Until about a month ago I had a realization that every song I do listen to from him was dope. So I've been straight up bumpin The-Dream this past month. This is another dope record. Production sounds similar to "Throw It In The Bag" but still good and The-Dream kills it!

lol gunny thing is phantastic jason derulo might win album of the year not just cause of hype he got good music on his album plus theres omarions return so R&B title is gonna be contested for.

I am pretty sure this is L.O.S. Da Mystro and not Tricky Stewart. How do I know? It sounds all the same. And oh boy how do I hate 808's and snap sounds already. Cheap as hell. Also it should be no secret how I can't stand The-Dream's singing.

Its a great track though not a classic, lets not go insanse with overly generous reviews.
I have a feeling this might be a L.O.S. (who's a very underated producer) produced track, I just dont think this sounds like something Tricky Stewart would make. 3.5 |

Time to get my Dream on again! He took me by surprise with this, at least he is keeping it under wraps to prevent leaks.
This is everything I love in a The-Dream song. That piano never gets old to me! This song is AMAZING. Some of the lines in this song are classic to me (Half to my main girl, Quarter to my side chick...). He is also dropping 4 singles before May when the album drops....BRING IT ON! I need Love Vs. Money times 10! Love King, album of the year, before it drops! |

The first time I listened to this I thought it was ok, the second time I thought it was pretty damn good and by the third time I was in love. Love vs. Money was the best r&b album of the decade, so it's safe to say my expectations for Love King are pretty damn high.
Oh, and I got 5 that says there's no way he retires after this album. Any takers?

Sorry i can't rock with this folks. there very few songs who can spell in a song and they're not annoying, one of is The Notorious B.I.G, so my standards are a bit higher for this kind of stuff.

The-Dream never fails to impress me! His style is always right on the money (no pun intended) and i would say he really changed the R&B game with his first 2 albums, it seems every R&B cat is trying to mimic his formula...
However, I would hope that if he does decide to return with a fourth album, he switches up his style and gives us something fresh that we havent heard from him before...maybe then he will get his grammy respect |

I listened to this last night and wasnt feeling it, so i decided to sober up and give it another listen. I'm still not as impressed as everyone else seems to be. This is just an average radio track. The beat is banging but overall this song is nothing special.

@DJ Baer, The-Dream has been working with L.O.S. Da Mystro since the first album. He did "Shawty Is A 10", "Fast Car", "Playin In Her Hair", and every single off of Love Vs. money except for "Sweat It Out", which was Tricky Stewart. Why isn't he more recognized is my question!

c'mon man, The Dream is too good. Dream would smash any other r&b artist in an album or song contest. plain and simple, he is the best r&b artist alive. he kills everything. yea, hes better than Alicia, Jaheim, Ne-Yo, Usher and whoever else u can think of.
