Dr. Dre - I Need a Doctor
Artist: Dr. Dre
Featuring: Eminem , Skylar Grey
Producer: Alex Da Kid
Album: Detox
Label: Aftermath/Interscope
When I see a track that has Dr. Dre’s name associated with Detox, I can’t help but roll my eyes. However, when I saw the names Eminem and Skylar Grey (co-writer of Love the Way You Lie) attached to new leak I Need a Doctor, I had to hear more. Shortly following previous leak Kush, Need a Doctor is produced by Alex Da Kid, who crafts a beat that features some heavy snare hits and low bass drums, with some poppy electronic synth sounds to keep the record Top 40 eligible. Although the effects are kind of cheesy, they serve their purpose as Grey unleashes a catchy hook while Eminem typically rips the mic. As far as Dre’s rapping, maybe the 10 year hiatus has me expecting his Chronic flow, but it feels like the good Dr. may have waited too long and lost his touch. Will Doctor appear on Detox, or the re-release of Eminem’s Recovery, as rumors suggest? Will Detox ever come out? Will mainstream America eat this song up or trash it? We’ve got questions, now let’s hear your answers.
Update: I Need a Doctor is the second single off Dre’s Detox.

A legendary combo. Dre shouldn't have let Alex do the track, it sounds terrible and something like an 8th grader would do.
As far as the vocals go, they're nothing short of amazing. Now I'm excited for Detox. |

What’s the point of having a track on Detox that isn’t produced by Dre.
But I’m personally not a fan of the production, maybe it’s because I’m just disappointed that it’s not Dre’s beat. Even though I gave Kush 5 stars I’m not overly impressed by these two singles. I hope te rest of Detox will be better. |

There is too much going on in this song. Even though the lyrics for Eminem are hectic, like always, I can't stand this because of all that mashed up beat, seems like a failed attempt to produce a beat similar to the GOOD Friday song - Hell of a life. I hope this isn't a final version.

Na, not feeling it. I can't believe Dre (who is obviously a legend of a producer) would give up that role in favor of a short verse.
The producer Dr. Dre is the artist we all love, not the rapper Dr. Dre. And the production, in my opinion, isn't that good at all. It sounds very raw--hopefully this is not one of the leads on Detox, or I think we're in for a 10 year disappointment. |

I loved the beginning vocal, definitely had me expecting something good. Then... Well.. Didn't quite get off. Lyrics were okay on Eminem's part, Dre didn't really have much lines, then the production. Yeah.. the production wasn't top notch to say the least.

This clearly is not the mastered version of the track... I don't think the booth should be featuring this, thus no vote on my part. As already mentioned I would prefer to see Dre producing. Eminem sounds great as does the hook... I think the final version will be pretty hot

I agree with "AP_ALL_DAY_28" on this, why have a record on "Detox" thats not produced by Dr. Dre. But anyway..... Im really felling this. The chorus is very catchy and a nice easy listen. Also, Eminem's Verses are hard and deep (like always). Eminem never gets old of listening to.
I think Eminem should have been in "Kush", instead of Akon. But, it was still straight FIRE. This record may not be produced by Dr. Dre, but its still a great solid record. A very enjoyable listen. And the production is great from Alex Da Kid. Cant wait to hear more from Detox. |

If this chick is the same one that co-wrote "Love the way you lie", why didn't she just sing it? Was it for marketing or vocal range? IMO, Skylar Gray sounds more genuine than Rihanna, anyways...
The track doesn't sound finished and those warps during the track make it less enjoyable. It hurts me to say this but Dre's verse was average and bit bland. It shows potential in terms of story telling but average overall. Eminem straight out carved up this track as he always does. Was gonna give it 2.5 because of the warping and un-mastered emptiness but Eminem's verses were epic. 3.5... Skylar Gray singing the hook, Alex Da Kid producing the track, Eminem in 2 verses, Dre in one short one... I think this'll be on the "Recovery" re-release and not on Detox. Not to mention it's the perfect promo for Dre if Detox is coming out soon... |

This sounds like an Em track. The production is noisy, its like it has too much space or a vacuum that needs to be filled.
If the beat was more crisp then I would give it four stars. |

Honestly, it's not that bad. I really like the hook. It's kinda like a mix between "Love The Way You Lie" and an 80's song. This obviously isn't making Detox, and I would be shocked if it didn't make the "Recovery" re-release.

The sound thus far is so spaced out.. maybe I'm biased and looking for a Chronic pt. 3. This ain't it. In the beginning the hook had me to believe the track would be a la Stan..but this is too pop for me.

If they clean up the beat it's easily a 5 star song; the lyrics are amazing as Eminem and Dre talk about their story

Nope. It feels more like an old Eminem Track. And if it is a track for Detox, why is Alex Da fourth grader producing it instead of Dre? Hmm.. good to hear from the doc, whatever it is. But this is far from dope.

im on this site at least every few days love the layout, but today wake up, after a few days without, i see 2 dre tunes (liked kush but not a fan of akon so spoilt it for me) this, em + rd59 and an extremely hard DMX and busta tune and became overly nostalgic really was a delight!Think this is very decent although agree to an extent with the comments about the production. i think detox will be a disappointment coz he left it way too long i will get it, but ill be expecting at least a 4 disc album and at least a solid 15-20 rotationable tracks!!and it should be free!!(only joking)

As soon as Em and Dre's labels acknowledge that this record has the potential to be a radio hit, they'll get behind it and the next thing you know it will be all over radio for months. Seriously, just wait.

Has a great beat and nice lyrics by Eminem, but I expected more outta Dre. I was waiting and waiting for him to jump in and he kinda disappointed. They built it up for him and he kinda fell flat.
