After a year’s worth of speculation, the moment of truth is here: Drake has finally chosen a label home. Despite prior statements to the contrary, the Toronto native is signed to Young Money—with Cash Money/Universal Republic distribution—and his debut album, Thank Me Later is set to drop on the tail end of ‘09. This past week, Every Girl producer Tha Bizness released The Winner, the first official leak off the forthcoming LP. Secure in his status as ‘09’s Rookie of the Year, Drake celebrates the occasion by spitting an acceptance speech, complete with thanks to the family and friends who helped make his victory possible. Simply put, it would behoove Weezy, Birdman, and the entire label team to green-light this track for buzz single promotion; judging at how well similar preview tracks (Crack a Bottle, D.O.A.) have done recently, there’s a good chance The Winner will live up to its name on the charts. Now that the label issue’s resolved, fans can shift their speculation to a new question: will Thank Me Later be the first debut rap album to go plat since Souljaboytellem.com?

This beat is crazy! Always the lyrics are great, congradulating himself for the recent signing. I don't think this one will get real big airplay like Best I Ever Had...but this is the preview to a debut album that will be off the hook.

Enjoyable record. Tha Bizness stock is UP. I don't think this has the same hit potential as either of Drake's current "singles," but I continue to be amazed by his popularity and overall acceptance. It would not surprise me (at all), though, if it did HIT.

I heard this earlier this week. This is actually the only Drake leak from these past couple days that I truly liked. It sounds like a return to his "Comeback Season" style flow. I can dig it. I hope the "Thank Me Later" album will be a classic, have great, classic Drake lyrics and swag, and have no Lil Wayne and Young Money features whatsoever.

To be honest, it took me a while to catch on to the Drake bandwagon. I only heard the songs that were featured on here, and I thought they were decent but near the hype he was getting. Then, recently, I was introduced to the "So Far Gone" mixtape, and this dude is sick! I can't wait for the album. Sorry, had to get that out.
Now to the song. He brings some good lyrics on here which is expected. Tha Bizness is a real up-n-coming producer in the game. This would be a great track for a buzz single. |

I been a fan of this dude since his degrassi days and the first time i heard him flow on a track i was amazed at his wordplay and style!!
And to this day i am STILL amazed!! This is a HOT track but still not as good as his other stuff off of his previous mixtapes!! So Far Gone is still like my favorite mixtape ever!! Should of signed to someone else though like G.O.O.D but i guess YM could do something good with him!! |

Okay I admit that I wasn’t really checking for Drake or had heard any of his music before "So Far Gone" dropped, but after downloading it I have to say that I liked it better than I thought I would.
Now I can’t say that I’m caught up in all of the hype that he’s getting, but I can say that he’s a very talented artist, is more balanced, for every track he has where he stunts there’s a very introspective track. I think he’s got a plan, as far as what he wants to release and when. "Thank Me Later" will be crack no doubt, and gon put up numbers because he’s generated his necessary fan base through his "singles" .... Now to the song. Every line is paper .... The union of adept skills in production and unmistakable wordplay results in an outstanding BANGER!!! |

a good track, solid beat and drizzy goes in with the lyrics...but doesnt have that hit vibe. personally i think he almost NEEDS to blend singing and rapping on his single choices if he wants to stay unique and keep his style moving on radio/mainstream...just a thought

This is a Graduation Kanye type beat. Drake kills everything he raps on. I'm not sure signing with young money was the best career move, but never the less his talent will bleed through all the madness.

I think most of the positive feedbacks on here are for the artist rather than the song, and the same for the negative. I've got to say im in the positive camp, Drake is so different to anyone else out there and the flow on this track is great.

Came into this song thinking... I'll give Drake another chance. The problem I have with him is that his lyrics are nice and he gets good beats, but he looks goofy in person and being from Degrassi and his Best I Ever Had video could have been so much better in my opinion. Good music, not sure about his image.

Well he coulda took this so many ways but y did he do the beat so wrong?? l0l Wish he could bring somethin new to the table. But im sure it'll play on the radio stations so much that we'll have no choice but to like it. ( Like Maxwell-Pretty Wings) Is this on hit album? I giv him 3 stars because he put his heart at the ending and i loved the soft side of him!! aaaww i know the gurls will love it bcuz i do! He got us with 'Best I Ever HAD' so who knows.
