Drake - Say What's Real (Freestyle)

Artist: Drake

Producer: Kanye West

Album: So Far Gone Mixtape

Label: YMCMB/Universal Motown

 Send Ringtones to Your Phone

Newly signed to Interscope (similar to fellow young phenoms Charles Hamilton and Wale), Drake has gone back to work on his long-awaited So Far Gone mixtape, which has been talked about for months without any release date announced. Being somewhat of a perfectionist, the Toronto native has waited patiently for the best of the best instrumentals to freestyle over; it looks as though this persistence has paid off. Over Kanye West‘s Say You Will (the opening track on 808s & Heartbreak), Drake decides to Say What’s Real, using the opportunity to get a few things off his chest.  Unlike similar freestyles from the likes of Tyrese and Trey Songz, Drake completely takes over the beat, leaving nary an Auto-Tuned line from West to be heard.  So, what’s real?

This song first appeared on the Independent Chart on December 8, 2008

I like this...not too many rappers have spit flows on kanye's new sound. I'm actually diggin this a lot. Its not a banger but its one solid freestyle and for that i give it banger status

Damn!! This is the Drake right here! I didnt really like the original but his flow and lyrics is so good on this one! How many guys could freestyle on a slow 808's & Heartbreak beat and actually turn it into a blazing track!! This is amazing. The future of hip-hop. Haters can hate but Drake is for real..classic!!

This freestyle is really good. He is a nice rapper with a hella good flow...but it's going to get boring...In rotation.

Booth-heads, I propose a toast! To us sensible reviewers; leading by example, we have helped WOW:) evolve from a brash young commenter into a wise, experienced reviewer (which her above comment shows)! Salute! (watches members clang glasses, then makes toast)

OK, now to the song: That's a good freestyle, and gets extra points for being entirely his own vocals. Some will lose track early, though...but still, it's a BANGER.

What I like the most about this is that it shows people that are not digging Kanye's new sound that it is STILL GOOD MUSIC, no matter the genre! The thing is, not too many rappers are on the level of grabbing a (smooth) beat like this and carrying it out only with the help of a proper flow and dope lyrics, so they consider it “wack”.
Much respect Drake, for embracing good music despite possible criticism.
PS: He shoulda been on the album! If only Kanye knew…

I'm glad I slid Z this exclusive. I don't know if that's what prompted him to feature it, but nevertheless, it's here! cktanner0625, THIS IS THE SAME THING I SAID! I'm not hating on the ones who were featured on that XXL cover...but Drake should have a cover all for himself! I've had this on repeat for three days! The dude is on another level, and as a fellow emcee only like two years removed from his age, it definitely make me know I gotta step up the lyrics and swagger on records. This is the only rapper I have on my radar right now and it's been that way since I finally became an official fan last November (I'd been hearing him since January 2007). Degrassi is the best show on TV and it's gave us the best rapper of this moment right now. The production is off the chains and even though it's my favorite song on Kanye's new project, I feel Drake smashed it even harder than Ye (and I don't usually say anybody smashed anything harder than Ye.). You'll only hear me say that sentence involving Lupe Fiasco or DRAKE. Period. If you haven't caught up yet, go download the "Room for Improvement" Mixtape & the "Comeback Season" Mixtape and anything else DRAKE that you can find so you can get in the loop! He's here yo!

Ponte Vecchio, you are out of pocket with that robot comment. I suppose you don't respect real art from the heart. That's okay. Some people don't. Those are the people when I look through their IPODs, I get to have a good chuckle and then it reflects on why those people think so ignorantly in other aspects of life.

But anyways, yes! The boy Drake is a beast. cktanner0625, I agree...Mickey smashed that O.D on Life track. That's actually the first Drake joint I shot Z's way, but I don't think it was featured way back when. It was a great joint though.

Finally Drake is featured in the booth! It will be hard for any newage rapper to even touch drake lyrically, hes going to to big things for a long time! A while back i thought id look up who this kid is out spittin wayne on this track, hmmm drake......WHAT!? Jimmy Off of Degrassi!! nahhhhh!!! Then after coping combackseason i realised the game has found what it needs! Im lookin forward to drake takin over the charts and getting what he deserves. Im tellin you drake is hungry and hes gonna knock all these illiterate rappers out of the game reppin T Dot the whole time baby!! He has rhymes for years, he has a strong presence the wit, the flow and the swag to back it all up.
Nothin but good things to come! B- reppin southern ontario

I been sayin Drake is bananas but the more material I'm hearin' the more I'm even starting to be taken over by the thought. IFF (if and only if) Drake doesn't change when over at Interscope and even continues to evolve he is destined to take the hip hop crown within 3 years. Dats - Dre's realtalk prophecy. For those who are gonna disagree follow MHs advice cop all dat ish, look for anything on da booth that is Drake and you'll eventually come to the crossroads that I have.
T-Dot is finally on the map thanks to Drake and Kardinal Offishall.

A freestyle is about makin' it you, show me how he didn't make this his own and shred da beat but in an ill relaxed freestyle on a beat that is simple but harmonious....

I understand that not everyone is gonna like something but I do think its funny just because a song isn't uppity it is "boring..."? The only negative rater that I have respect for is Blais - dats a true relative opinion but many of the best things in life can be perceived as boring "A starry sky in a non-polluted area, a Grand Canyon sunset...etc." Not everyone is gonna like the starry sky but I do feel that they should respect the magnitude in which a clear starry sky is.

Maybe this'll come off as abrasive and I'm sorry if so but I felt it needed to be said.
