In truth, there’s only one man powerful enough to have the hip-hop interwebs explode to the degree it has over the past few hours, and his name is Drake. Given the reaction to the release of the young phenom’s new single Over you’d think he was handing out tickets to heaven, not a song, but the hype surrounding his upcoming debut album Thank Me Later really is that crazy. Oh yeah, the music… Produced by Boi-1da, who crafts an epic, string-driven beat that oddly lags during the verses, Over is first and foremost Drake’s show, and the spotlight shines on his mic skills as he drops punchline after punchline about the consequences of his meteroric rise, plus a random Jade Pinkett diss; Will will not be pleased (kidding). The result is a track that’s good, but nowhere near the second coming of Christ fans were surely expecting. Still, those disappointed should probably blame their own insanely high expectations, not the Drakester. The bold and arrogantly titled Thank Me Later is set to drop sometime this spring – let the insanity begin.

Drake's single! Everybody go NUTS. Just kidding, well kind of.
This is undoubtedly catchy, but is it what everyone expected? No. Will I take it? Yes. Great look (once again) for Boi-1da who has gone from North of the Border mainstay to nationally known beatsmith. |

This is different from what i would expect from Drake's new album, but that's a good thing. Great production, good lyrics. I love the Dead Prez line "one thing bout music, when it hits you feel no pain." The hook could have been better, and I pray this isn't the lead single, but this is a good filler track that if nothing else, serves as an appetizer to hold me over until the main course.

Hook lets it down, its kinda amateurish, a bit wordy at times and it’s hard to lock into it on first listen, but it quickly grew on me. Lyrics are tight, good punchlines sprinkled throughout two verses. And Boi-1Da makes sure that song stays a powerful anthem.
Overall, not powerful enough for a single, but a step above album track. |

beat is different....and its not bad, but he won't get far with this single only his fans myspace...and he got some bars as all ways so, i thought he was great at hooks, but i think this proves that his ego is getting big like ye and he will put out anything for a buck...losing instrest in drizzy

Hate to spit on the fire but this is a 'Drizzy can do no wrong' fan club banger but for me its a pass. The beat is nasty just super human, I can see someone else riding that, just not Drizzy.

At first, I wasn't really sure what to think of this song. There was so much hype from myself and everybody else around it. But as much as it doesn't exactly seem like first single material, I think he put this out there first for a reason. The chorus basically sums up his past year in a nutshell, and he ends it by saying that hes going to be here for a long time. Everyone is waiting on a classic in Thank Me Later. Is the track perfect? No, it has flaws. But its a great way to open up the whole idea of his cd. We're already gonna be waiting on whats next.

I like this. It's not incredible, but I like it. I have to give it to the man, he's one of the few emcees where I make sure I listen to every line when he's rhyming. Speaking of which, two quick questions:
1) Why is he calling Jada Pinkett a bit*h? Just because her last name rhymed? Seems random. 2) I can't be the only one who noticed he flipped Dead Prez' "Hip Hop" on the second verse. Drake quoting Dead Prez on a song about being rich and famous. The irony's incredible. |

i think drake is a nice artist but im nowhere near as hyped about his debut as most but after givin it a listen its nothin special. its the drake that we got on so far gone so its familiar to the fans and as far as song goes it has some lines here and there the beat is ok to me. didnt really get into this one

Oh, Nathan, I think its because he says "I'm about to set it off in this b*tch". Hes probably referring to Set It Off, which is a movie Jada Pinkett was in, rather than calling her a b*tch.

Song's definitely nice, but what can an artist do when their expectations are skyyy high. And yeah the hook sounds kinda like "what-the-hell-am-I-saying"... I can dig it though

Not sure about this…..I think the beat and production is amazing but Drake is not stepping up to the same level that he got us ready for after So Far Gone. We need another Best I Ever Had..more singing..more meaningful lyrics that set him apart from every other rapper out there going in over a good beat. (and this is coming from a huge Drake fan)
Really hoping to see better from the rest of this album. |

welcome to one of my top producers... Boi-1-da... nice production... Drake continues to amaze me... nice single... not a billboard topper like "Best I Ever Had" and "Forever"... but it's nice..

This is a solidly produced song and drake definitely had some solid lines and rhyme scheme was nice. If you haven't noticed, He likes to tell a story with his music. This could be best described as a tone setter for his album. Kinda like he is showing you tha mindset he was in.

at first listen i didn't think the chorus was very strong. i still don't think its strong lol but i can see why he did it. the reason i like Drake so much is cause he keeps it real in his lyrics. it's like we have been with him on his journey and he is just keeping it real so far. the beat grew on me, i didn't like as much but i like it a lot now. i rather have a song like this with substance as a single then some mainstream crap he could of done. well played Drake, well played.

"I KNOW WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE IN HERE RIGHT NOW I DIDN'T KNOW LAST YEAR WHO THE F*** ARE YA'LL...."
Nice beat by ya' boy Boi-1da; I just feel that Drake gotta sale too much money invested in him( 2 million dollar deal) its a business. But I think he'S GONNA BE THE NEXT LEBRON in the rap game!!! Lyrics just too simple but the deliver is on POINT. |

Heard that Drake dropped a new song on the radio and got on the internet to listen to is right after, ha! I like how the beat transitions from the verse to hook. Lyrics are pretty good, 4.5.

From the beat to the lyrics developed throughout through the two verses, Drake and Boi1da create an high energy anthem representing the new sound of Toronto. In an industry full of facsimiles where high energy dance tracks are quickly replacing thought provoking testaments, originality is cosidered a key endgangered species and this track may exactly be the prescription we need to get rap back on track.

The track is average, should have been better as a lead single. Also DJ Z you got some explaining to do, why is this track in top rated, while there have been tracks rated better than this, just because you are a drake groupie, doesn't mean you can do that, and @Nathan, that line: when the music hits you feel no pain, is originally bob marley line.

This is good music, i expect nothing less than greatess from drizzy drake!
My only complaint is the beat sorta drops off halfway through, it needs more bounce! Other than that, nice first look into the album, cant wait for it to drop!! |

Beat is "cute". Hook is terrible, like Biz Markee bad. Drake spits the same some-what witty lyrics in the same some-what monotone style.
He'd like to have this forever, but I don't think it's gunna happen. Drake is getting old and fast. |
