Few artists have ever exploded onto the scene as quickly as Aubrey Graham. It was only two or three years ago when a buddy told me to check out this guy named Drake – So Far Gone dropped a few months later and seemingly overnight he was a fixture in America’s iPods. But what does this all prove? That Drake is definitely someone that can create Headlines. Today is no different as the Toronto rapper-turnt-singa-turnt-rapper drops off the first official single from his sophomore effort, Take Care. Produced by Boi-1da, Headlines is fully equipped with an arsenal of horns and snares over which Drake implants his relatable raps and addictive singing. Reflecting on how life has changed for him, in typical Drizzy lyrically alternates between tackling his insecurities, the challenges of fame and, while he’s at it, some outright stunting. It sounds like not much has changed since Thank Me Later this is the same blend of humility and braggadocio rap that he’s made his trademark. With Take Care’s October 24 release date approaching, prepare for Drake’s name pop up in the Headlines with increasing frequency.

Better than everything he has done post "So Far Gone", but the truth is this still sucks as a hip-hop song.
P.S. I gotta ask this: Where is the "Follow Me Home" review? Jay Rock is doing better things for hip hop than this guy... |

Nice track but kind of a let down as the first single off the album. I was expecting a banger like Over so this is slightly dissapointing. The worst part about the song would be the hook which typically is Drake's strong suit. Still high anticipation for Take Care.

As a single this track really isn't that good. The hook is pretty disappointing compared to other songs we've heard from Drizzy. I've heard that this cd is going to be really cohesive, so much that the song isn't really meant to be heard apart from the rest of the cd. I hope this cd ends up being more like So Far Gone than Thank Me Later with a lot of the tracks blending together and whatnot. As for the song itself, not bad and I enjoy the lyrics. I don't see it matching up with past singles tho

Ok song, but Drake needs to go harder!!!! The production is always top notch from Boi-1da, but I know Drake can do better. He needs to stop with the sing-rap flow. The radio will eat this song up, but at least we get a rapping Drizzy. Not as great a lead single as Over, but still good.

@Dillon W. - Why does he need to be "hard"? And in reference to Pau Gasol, he's still a top 5 power forward in the league because he's talented, not "hard."
People REALLY need to stop wanting Drake to be some hardcore-straight-rapping-nothing-else kind of rapper. The dude still murders flows whether there's some singing in it or not. The beat is crazy, and Drake does his style on this song like no one else can. Can't wait for Take Care. |

I think this is a grower... Im not feeling it yet, but my reaction was exactly the same for his last opening single 'Over' and thats now 1 of my favourite Drake tracks.

Another solid track from Drake, that being said, another "safe" track. Take any of his other tracks, replace some words, and you get "Headlines". The feel of Boi-1da's track with the lyrics go well together.

Drake knows how to orchestrate melodies perfectly...though not much of a singer, Drake knows his range and the notes he hits resonate perfectly with the beat. Beat was ALRIGHT in my opinion, but drake was able to flow on it correct and his lines stayed in context with each other. He still seems hungry, so I'm definitely looking forward to the album.
