Drake - Fear
Artist: Drake
Producer: DJ Khalil
Album: So Far Gone (EP Version)
Label: YMCMB/Universal Motown
Hoping to rack up yet more sales and buzz between now and the February 2010 release of Thank Me Later, Drake and his new label team, Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Republic, are re-releasing the most popular tracks off his smash-hit So Far Gone mixtape in EP form. On closing track Fear (the only new cut set to appear on the EP), Drake gives his thoughts on the success he’s achieved to date, lacing DJ Khalil‘s beat with poetic rhymes that should finally silence those who still consider him a “rap-ballad MC.” Already stirring up plenty of conversation thanks to the line, “I never cried when Pac died/but I probably will when Hov does,” this previously-unreleased track will likely provide the push fans need to pick up their own copies of the SFG EP when it hits record stores and online retailers on the 15th.

The third verse on here is one of the best versus I've heard this year. It's what we need more in hip hop: crazy skill and real, honest emotion.
I still hang on every word of every verse this dude does. It's crazy. |

I'm just gonna spill some thoughts here. 99% of the population love Drake to death (probably overboard) and the other 1% think he's incredibly overhyped. I'm just gonna throw out my opinion. To be honest I don't think he's over-hyped at all. I think that he's lived up to the hype as best as one can (without releasing an album yet). Every verse he spits is crazy consistent and he can sing a hook like a bastard (this song is no different). He has shown to be versatile over different beats and still come up big everytime. I have high hopes for this guys album.

Im prepared to hear i rate to low. but watever 2.5 stars. Drake used to be like so awesome in my mp3 player, but im losing the spark i once felt. he's started to blend with every other rapper... It's just he's at a hyped peak right now... That's all.

I'm getting so tired of Drake. The song isn't that great and he's starting to sound like Kanye. Drake is a good artist and is very constant but that dosen't change the fact that he's overhyped.
The song is alright, Khalil's beat is alright, and the hook is alright. Still people are gonna act like this is the best shit they've ever heard. |

honestly that1kid, i'm not tryna hate on ur ratin cuz im done with that, but ive seen u say that his last few songs were below his others, but i just looked at your Best i ever had rating and saw u gave it a 4, honestly if u cud re rate that song, wud u give it a 4, or i think your expectations for Drake r getting to high, this is 10x better than best i ever had, the concept, the lyrics, everything is better, i still like best i ever had, but his last songs (the winner, forever, killa, and w/e else there was if any) have been a ton better than best i ever had
"no autotune, but u can feel the pain, but it all comes spillin out like i hit a vein" firrrreeee Drake is great, future right here, he'll be in this game for awhile |

This just wasn't it for me. I'm usually all on da gravy when it comes to Drake but this is missing something. It's real, it's emotional, the hook is kinda stale the beat isn't fresh either. For the sake nixing one of the twos I'll rate this a four because this song is deserving of a 3.

@1_O-TYME_1: yes i wuld still give it a 4, hell a 5. But realize Best I Ever Had came out still before he was mainstream. Plus, I heard the song leaked like December/early january. That song is nice. But Im just not feelin Drake's new stuff. Im not hatin on him BECAUSE he's mainstream, but it seems now he's just goin for "bein hot". The songs dont even seem like he's putting effort in to them anymore. And, I just dont really like these tracks.
So Far Gone Mixtape = STRAIGHT FIRE. Comeback Season Mixtape= FARELY DECENT Room For Improvement Mixtape= HOT This new stuff.? Psh. I pass. |

that1kid: i guess its your opinion, but if Best I Ever Had came out after he was mainstream, then u wud give it like a 2 or 3???? i dont get what your tryin to say with "But realize Best I Ever Had came out still before he was mainstream." cuz the songs he's released havent been bout girls and shit recently so they rly werent mainstream, the hooks werent mainstream (i guess Forever was, but all the others? nah), i dont get what your saying, heres what i think u r saying:
Since Drake has gone mainstream, u havent liked his stuff, basically cuz its mainstream when most of it rly isnt, but if he were still underground, still makin mixtapes, and he wud release The Winner, Killa, Forever, and Fear, then u wud like it cuz hes underground, its just so hyprocritical, and then another thing is if Drake released Comeback Season, and R4Improvement as mixtapes, then if he wudve released BIEH as lead single to So Far Gone (which he wud make as an album), then u wud hate it cuz its mainstream...thats what im gettin from what u just said i dont understand how u can think that Best I Ever Had was better than Forever, thats just not appropriate lol, but w/e it is what it is i guess |

Anybody who still doubts Drizzy's lyrical abilities or song content should completely be changed after hearing this classic song. This is incredible. I admit I used to think Drake was highly overrated and overhyped, but his DJ Booth.net features and his So Far Gone mix-album were able to totally change my mind. Dude is crazy. ABSOLUTELY LOVE the deep content of this song! He is a great addition to mainstream hip-hop and hip-hop in general!

Love this track, great transition to his debut album! I agree with that Pac line, I grew up to Jay-Z, I was too young to remember when Pac was huge. I respect Pac though, but I can relate to Drake's line more. You feel me? Some of the older members on here my disagree, but this is my opinion.

This is a decent track where it's nice to just hear some real feelings and thoughts. The production was cool and thought-provoking, and Drake could have been better, but this is cool for a mixtape bonus.
About the Pac line... Drake was about 8, about the same age I was when Pac passed. I think what he's trying to do is show the generational differences in the rap game, and explain that Jay is just as important to him as Tupac was for so many ppl back in the day. |

I gotta back "that1kid" on this. i disagree wit a lot of his ratings too, but i think he is right bout Drake. his songs have been downgradin ever since Best I Ever Had, except Forever. I am all bout mainstream so you would think i would be ratin his stuff higher and higher now that he is mainstream, but his new stuff jus isnt that good.
Forever- Drake was only 1/4 of the song. Killa- decent Fear- weak The Winner- boi 1da beat easily outshines Drake |

IDK why you guys saying that since Best I Ever Had came out his been going downhill?? I guess you guys need to really listen to the song to really understand what he is saying!! This kind of reminds me of successful for some reason with the heartfelt lyrics!! I also agree with Juanito_88 about the Pac line!! I was the same age and when he died i didn't quite understand life and death so you wouldn't expect Drake too at that young age!! |

Now I would have hoped all the premature commentary from people who never really heard Drake’s catalog would have ceased, but I see it didn't. I disagree with everyone who doesn't like this joint. I mean, c'mon! This is Drake in his element! That introspective, captivating flow!
He rapped about everything that we've wondered about. As a fan that's been listening since "Room For Improvement", I've definitely seen his transformation and even though I was still a big fan, I was wondering when his mind was going and his direction. He addresses that in this song. "They want the hits, I play the game". That line reminds me of when Jay said "Truthfully, I wanna rhyme like Common Sense, I did 5 mil, I ain't rhymed like Common since". This gave some of us long time fans hope that the real Drake is still there and we can expect this on "Thank Me Later. To be real, Drake is one of the only other rap cats in the game that I really am concerned with as far as a life level. He allows us to look into his life and his thoughts on records, and we can see right in front of our eyes the struggle he's going through (from having to be loyal to Wayne for putting him on, being something he might not really be, and dealing with this abrupt success). It's deeper than music and unless you're on a spiritual vibe with this whole thing, I don't think you'd understand. IDK. LOL. Sorry for the venting, but I really feel this. Some of these lines are actually even very brand to my circumstances right now, and I'm still just an up and coming artist. "But it's funny having fans, who find you before anybody ever has the chance, and builds you up so you can be the biggest in the game, and realize when you're there, sometimes the sh*t don't feel the same. One last tidbit: If you're still listening to music (at least these types of songs) and talking about it's hit potential or if it intrigued you fully on a music level, reevaluate yourself. Start listening to lyrics and music on a spiritual level so you can fully understand where an artist is coming from. |

@mmoore 1127 - This song is "Kanye-esque!"
@Mike Dreams - This is Drake in his element! Co-sign 110% Both Drake and Kanye West brings what many rappers lack, they all talk, but no emotion is ever behind their lyrics. This is the type of sh*t that made me like Drake in the first place. Once again Drake proves how many ways there are to cleverly rap about problematic relationships and being on the verge of stardom. All y’all who "disliking" this track, i’m just wondering, what are y’all exactly looking for in y’all music? That being said, I still won't go on and say that his talent far exceeds “hype” surrounding him but I also feel that his honesty and word play is what is getting him so far. Not just over-blown hype. Yeah, Imma be playin it safe mostly bcos his affiliation with Young Money cos that brings Drake closer to the generic formulas and trappings that mainstream hip hop so often falls into. |

Drake talking:
This is why I do this sh*t. I think they call this, uhmm, venting. Verse 1: Look Uhh. This is me. Still the same. They want the hits. I play the game. No auto tune, but you can feel the pain. It all comes spilling out like i hit a vein. Watt up lil Braw. Watt up slum Ville. I hope you know that yall the reason i have fun still. The fans thinking that we all signed for one meal. Equal opportunities rapping, that sh*t is unreal. That aint how it works. That aint that how it goes. And I been getting high to balance out the lows. And I could use a writer to balance all my flows. But I never share my thoughts, This is all a nigga knows. And every time I try, it opens up my eyes. These verses are a chance to be remembered and reprised. And I would be performing just as long as Im alive. So every word I utter will be mine. Chorus: Dont believe the lies. Look me in my eyes. Please dont be scared of me. Please dont be scared of me. I remember you. This feeling isnt new. So please dont be scared of me. Please dont be scared of me. Oh oh oh oh oh uhh. Verse 2: I never cried when Pac died. But I probably will when Hov does. And if my tears hold value, then i would drop one for every single thing he showed us. And I'll be standing in a puddle. I stay away from ni*gas that could land me in some trouble. And imma keep it honest. Am so tired of being subtle. Its just me, Forty, O, and nick standing in a huddle. Staring at the members of my team. Who get questioned about they profit from this million dollar scheme. Just know that am in debt for you defending all our dreams. I hope you tell your family this sh*t aint what it seems. But yall the reason for a lot of my devotion. You know I spend money because spending time is hopeless. And know I pop bottles cuz i bottle my emotions. At least I put it all in the open. Chorus: Dont believe the lies. Look me in my eyes. Please dont be scared of me. Please dont be scared of me. I remember you. This feeling isnt new. So please dont be scared of me. Please dont be scared of me. oh oh oh oh oh uhh. Verse 3: Look. F*ck all yall. We ignore villains here. Premature millionaires. Welcome to my realest year. Yeah. I swear we making a killin here. I should be on top of the world here just chillen here. Uh. But its funny having fans. Who find you before anybody ever has the chance, and build you up so you could be the biggest in the game. And realize when your there, sometimes the sh*t dont feel the same. Yeah. And plus things are just so real at home People think Ive changed just because my appilla grown And now security follow me everywhere so im never actually am alone, i just always feel alone. I think im scared of what the future holds. I was wishing for some things and now am used to those. Every girl I meet thinks im f*cking groupie hoes. The honesty of my music has left me too exposed. All my old friends think i got a new crowd. And people seem to notice every time I do smile. I guess that mean they come few and far between. Even though im living out what you would call the dream. Yeah. And my uncle aint even messaging me. And him missing in my life is kind of messing with me. I hope this isnt one of those forever things. Its funny how money can change everything. Chorus: Dont believe the lies. Look me in my eyes. Please dont be scared of me. Please dont be scared of me. I remember you. This feeling isnt new. So please dont be scared of me. Please dont be scared of me. oh oh oh oh oh uhh. |

Not as good as I was hoping...but it's still a cool song.
Tt doesn't really fit with the rest of the So Far Gone mixtape...this release of the mixtape is gonna be kinda lame imo. While it takes the hits, it loses all the flow that the mixtape had originally. My favorite thing about it was how every song flowed with the next and all shared a similar vibe. Once the album comes out...I think we'll be able to truly rate Drake as an artist. |

Maybe my vision was eclipsed by a beat that I felt was lackluster, maybe it was the chorus that could've been A.) Mixed better and B.) More soulful. I still feel that this could been on a 'notha level. I'm talking "MY LIFE" that was the ish, the beat was a recycle but it was used artfully, the hook really wasn't super soulful but you could feel it bleed. Young Son don't take this as disrespect but this wasn't nearly on the par of even the Game how the F() could this be a 5. The lyrics are a 5; but you can honestly say the rest was!?? If so I retract my statement but I just can't see rating this realistically as a classic. If Drizzy remixed this and re-worked the chorus I think I could agree; beat withstanding.

I mostly agree with the opinions on here but Drake delivers. In my opinion we have other over-hyped rappers:Jay-Z being one of them. Yes Wayne gets repetitive, and Kanye cries a lot(lol) but thats what we like.In my opinion the best rapper out there at the momment is Ace Hood. Not looking too far away at Ludacris either. All in all nice track, good verses, he can come harder.

Best i Ever Had is simply a good song, whether i wud have heard it now or a year ago. it is. Im just sayin i havent heard a good song from him in awhile. i mean u cant really say there's any artist that u like EVERY single song from, im sure we can both agree on that? Think about that eve song. it got low ratings. i lot of ppl like how eve was 10 yrs ago. i mean artists try different things, and change stuff up, and im just sayin i havent liked any of drake's new songs, simply because i just dont like them. period. I admit i like "Juice" but i mean, thats ONE song. And as for "Forever" is concerned, I think everyone came hard on that except for him, and the artists are mainstream last time i checked right? yeah. |

This song is so chill that I gotta give it the classic rating. Some people fail to understand the concept of his style of flow. It's a mental thing. Some might think that it is Kanye-esque but at the same time do you hear the stuff that Kanye is talking about. Similarities in style of wordplay are gonna be similar when you're comparing two artists that are self-conscious and baring all criticism from what they do or how they do it. But if you look at Drake's lyrics and the type of delivery that he rhymes with, it's not as Kanye-esque as you think it is. But anyways, back to the song. This joint is hot and I will most definitely put this in my Chillmode Playlist.

@ReturnOfSanta: i'd like to discuss. So to avoid being a hater, i should like every single song that every single artist has ever made right?

ok that1kid, w/e, but the reason that ppl call u a hater is becuz u rarely give 4 stars, i mean do u have like 3 songs on ur ipod? just a joke
But i still dont see how u can think BIEH is better than Forever and this One more thing, and i think GStan wud agree wit me on this one, i just looked at the Crooked I - If You Ever Hear Me reviews to see if you rated it, and u gave it a 2...that is why ppl call u a hater, that was just a flat out amazing song, i mean one of my favorite ever, and i think any hip hop fan wud think so, i wonder if u even listen to the lyrics or just listen to the beat |

Nice track. Production is a little bland but a good fit for the song. I really agree with that Gucci quote, some people overstand him, not enough understand.

Drake seems like he's gotten where he can just spit anything and everyones gonna love it. He needs to start bringing more energy and going a little deeper with his lyrics.

so 1_O-TYME_1 - so wat ur really saying is i shud rate 4-5 stars to songs that YOU like right?
and ur right i never gave songs 4 or 4 stars.. not Saheed- Far as I Can See Snoop- That's The Homie Incyte- Soul Glo the last 2 Pitbull songs or almost every Young Son song. just cuz i dont rate music YOU like with 4 or 5 stars, doesnt mean i dont give them. If ur gonna ride my tip, ride it right. |

that is rly sad as f*ck that u know the songs that u gave 4/5
and no i didnt say that u shud rate the songs that i like 4-5, i said that i thought that was one of the best songs ive heard, and ANY FAN OF HIP HOP WOULD THINK THAT SONG WAS GOOD, so im not sayin that just cuz i liked it, then u shud like it, im sayin that if youre a fan of rap, then u shudve really liked that song unless u got a stack of f*ckin bricks blockin ur ears |

i went back and looked to prove a point.
and thats pretty much what ur saying. i should rate songs that you think are good with 4s & 5s. I listen to almost all kinds of music and i like certain kinds of hip hop, and u cant tell me there arent different kinds, and different sounds. and you cant say "im not a fan of rap" because i dont listen to the same songs as you. that's pretty ignorant. |

I don't understand how anyone can say he needs to "improve lyrically" or "work on his flow". Drizzy Drake makes you THINK about what he's saying. He actually spits with solid emotion and has something real to say. This song is no exception. It's solid in every aspect. Drake is the present and the future.

Chadillac - I totally agree with what your saying about the emotion, drake goes hard on every song. I dont honestly see how anyone can say they dislike it,

I'm sorry. I've been trying to listen to Drake but his songs are boring and unexciting to me! They all sound the same and his flow is EXACTLY the same in every song I've ever heard by him. That doesn't bode well.

And I love it! Drake kills it yet once again. I know most people think he boring, but honestly I actually listen to his words and he says some real s$%@. That's true entertainment, something you can relate to.

Wow some of you ppl are stupid, talkin about i dont like "the 2pac line"...What yall fail to realize is that Drake was 10yrs old when Pac died shiiid i was only 9. He was just a kid, im sure drake knew who he was but when your a child you prolly wont cry over someone who doesnt effect your life....Think harder next time guys...

"Never cried when Pac died, but I probably will when Hov does" ---- I liked this song until I heard that. Hot beat. Drake has so much potential, but hes going to sink himself.
