“Oh, you fancy huh?” Drizzy and Swizzy (see what I did there?) team up with Mary J. Blige to reiterate their affinity for stylish women on this remix of Fancy, first heard on Drake’s debut Thank Me Later. If you watched the MTV’s Video Music Awards a couple weeks ago, then you may remember this remix being performed live. If you missed the performance because the VMAs were as entertaining as watching beige paint dry, then this is a special treat. On the production Swizz Beatz sprinkles a soul sample on top of Noah “40” Shebib’s original looping beat, while Drake waxes poetic about fashionable, educated women with their own means. He’s not going to ask how you afford a purple Bentley, he’s just glad that you don’t expect him to pay for dinner. But the real headline is…Mary J. Blige on the hook! I won’t say she steals the spotlight, but she delivers a bridge with enough va-voom to make you wish she’d just take over the rest of the song. Maybe we could get a remix to the remix?

This song first appeared on the Top Hip Hop / R&B Chart on October 4, 2010

Drake's live performance of this song at the VMA's was one of the most boring, stand-still moments of an otherwise overly dull show. However, crappy performances aside, the song is actually pretty enjoyable. I agree with our new writer Stephanie (shouts, Steph) that Mary steals the show here. Drake might want to be careful next time he asks a legend in the game to guest on his record.

I have to disagree Z. I feel that Drake's performance at the VMAs was one of the best. I didn't think so at first, but after watching it again, it was definitely a monumental performance. Mary is such a legend and seeing her perform just got me excited for her music again; so much so that I dedicated about a week to listening to her full discography. The VMAs were overall boring and I think this performance was one of the few exciting moments of the night aside from Kanye's performance; which wasn't uber-impressive either.

I'd almost say that I like this version better than the album one...

Mary does a good job here, and seeing and she is the main difference from the original too, she stands out here. Not great, but good nonetheless. I really liked the original version of this (production and verses), and I wouldn't call this an improvement, but it's still a good remix.

Was my least favorite of the album, and a short addition from Mary J. Blige didn't really make it that much better, but only one verse of rap before the beat slows down to where I can actually stand the song adds one star, and another for Mary. I would have rated the album version as "Garbage".

So basically the same song. Just Mary, instead of on the background vocals, replacing T.I., who 's verse upgraded the orgininal song. They could of a least tried to make this a little special, even though remixes like these are common nowadays, anything to make it standout more from the orginial.

Give this whole track to Mary J, these two can't hold up a candle next to her.

I'm thinking of starting my own non profit: HHLASBV (Hip Hop Listeners Against Swizz Beatz Vocals.)

Ok, so the acronym needs some work, but have you ever heard Swizz and thought, yeah, that's exactly what this track needed?

Point is, cut off Swizzy's mic, extend Mary's part, and you might just improve on the original. But as is? Good, but nothing great.

i loved the original, and i love this version. Mary was on the original background as well, they just let her replace T.I. This was Mary's song originally (look it up). But yeah, still love it, though it is no better/worse than the original

I wasn’t a big fan of the original, I think it was one of the poorer songs on the album. Marry does improve this song but the original concept is still weak.

I hated this song due to the chorus, but I love it now. Mary's verse is nice, but it's not really any different from the original to keep it in rotation.

Can I just say that the original version is absolute garbage? This is better but it still has that terrible hook that makes me want to bang my head against a wall. Because of that I can't give it more than 1 star, but the original is -3 stars so thats a big improvement.

This is one of the few tracks I can somewhat stand Swizz's voice on. But even this one is pushing it a little. The original was a classic to me, and this one is not better or worse. I really like what they did to introduce the track, and of course MJB was fantastic.

Man...I hated this song with a passion when i heard it on Drakes album. I skipped it instantly. The verses were solid and T.I.'s voice was refreshing to me...but swizz beatz hook was SO ANNOYING. Now that its been playing everywhere, its grown on me. The hook is still the low point for me. The same with this remix. Mary was...eh...alrite. Her addition to the hook is just as annoying to me as the original. They should've kept T.I. Solid song, but there's room for improvement (on the original and the remix).

The original is an example of what I like Swizz doing. His ad-libs are wack, and his verses are pitiful, but with a catchy spoken hook, his unique voice makes the song immediate hit potential.

I do wish that Swizz would've stayed off the record, however he does provide a catchy (simple) chorus that people are reciting. I like this version a lot more than the original.

T.I. slaughters some songs here and there because he really isn't keeping up with the rest of the song (see Justin Timberlake's My Love for reference).

the few yards-worth of seconds and I was dead to the ground

Until the remix beats kicked in I was like what the hell.

Ok, overall compared to the standard of remixes and Drizzy records I think this below average. Blige, all hail the legend, defo points this classis jam (to me) in the right direction
