In December of last year, The Doppelgangaz introduced themselves to our pages with At Night, a lyrically on-point single that left the Whole Wide World—or at least the slice of it that frequents the Booth—fiending for a repeat performance. Today, Matter ov Fact and EP finally return to give heads what they’ve been craving in the form of their latest promo single, presented here in its officially remixed version. EP sets a disquieting mood on the production tip, layering dissonant synth ambiance and quavering vocal samples over a thumping, boom-bap rhythm section. He and Matter match the beat’s intensity where flow is concerned, but address topics humorously out of sync with the joint’s mood, from a woman who can “smoke a hookah with her cooca,” to their culinary preferences (Roti is fine, but veal is apparently a no-go). Demigodz vet Apathy grabs the mic to support his “favorite group from the freshman class” on the back. This left-of-center underground banger isn’t currently attached to a larger project, but we in the Booth will keep you posted on The Doppelgangaz’ plans.
