Donny Goines - Rock NYC (Remix)
Artist: Donny Goines
Featuring: Asher Roth , Mistah F.A.B , Rapper Big Pooh
Producer: 6th Sense
Album: 20X (FreEP)
Label: Ink Different, Inc.
Poor New York City. No one ever pays the Big Apple any attention, and the city that never sleeps certainly doesn’t have any anthems it can be proud of. (That was sarcastic, and yes, I’m from Boston.) Apparently not content with his city’s place on top, Booth favorite Donny Goines - not to be confused with Goines - has decided to rub it in further with the release of his new cut Rock NYC (LaGuardia-JFK Remix). In addition to some insane rock/hip-hop production that could have only comes from the mind of 6th Sense, the remix finds not only Donny paying homage to NY, but is also joined by suburban rhyme-spitter Asher Roth, Bay Area heavyweight Mistah F.A.B. and the pride of North Carolina, Rapper Big Pooh. Given my anti-Yankees sentiments it’s hard for me to admit this, but Rock NYC (LaGuardia-JFK Remix Remix) blows up bigger than a Bronx bomber. Rock NYC, the original version, and much more dopeness from Goines can be found on his 20X (FreEp), available now.

Alot of people rep NY so their not alone. I feel people are getting the idea, I could've lived having Jay-Z having the last New York song. Being from Tampa we are anti-NY as much as you Boston, but yeah I feel the beat and iit's a straight song but I personally only think new-yorkers can get behind this.

Not liking the rock on this. Its just too much over the beat. Everyone comes hard on this. Asher comes hard on this, wordplay on this is nice, makes the song enjoyable for a bit.

The 6th Sense's beat is insaine and the guitar riffs reminds me of something Rick Rubin would of produced for Run DMC back in the '80s. Everyone came with something dope and the sample is crazy addictive.

Run-DMC's King of Rock influence anyone? This song is fresh. Its not addicting but it is a good listen. I'll play this on my ipod at least once or twice. Rate that a 3.

Track with this many emcees always risk losing your attention, but thanks to quality verses from everyone (don't sleep on that FAB verse) it definitely keeps moving. And I'm digging the rock production, 6th Sense did a dope job of incorporating the guitars and drums without overdoing it.
Yo Yung Gunna, care to explain? |

Props to Donny for being proud of his city and making it in known in his music. Way to many NY emcees are hiding these days. I would have preferred to hear three guest emcees from New York tack on hot 16s to this 6th Sense beat, but I'm not mad.
@Yung Gunna - With comments like that its no wonder these rappers cannot stop talking about "hater this, hater that." Without offering a reason next time, your comment will be deleted. The DJBooth is a "hater-free" zone. |

Fab and Goines are mad weak on this. Ash Roth went hard with some nice flow and Rapper Big Pooh straight murdered the beat. Kinda odd but somewhat pleasing production.

JDarms said the beat was kind of strange, but I'll go a step further and say it's distracting and discordant. Too much going on. The rapping is decent, I just couldn't get into this one.

This song just didn’t get off the ground, when I first heard the hook I was expecting some banger verses, but no one delivered.

The power in the music is complimented by their powerful lyrics and distinctive flows. Lyricism does not lose it's steam from start to finish. And while I still think Asher Roth vocals were lower than others, but he has a strong control over his delivery and kind of made it work. BANGER!!!

The production is banger status, very beastie boyish, but donny fails to impress lyrically.
