It’s rare to hear a somber hip-hop record end happily, but DJBooth Freestyle Series alum Donny Goines is throwing the book out the…wait for it…window with his latest track, My Window. Here Goines focuses on his storytelling skills and invites listeners inside his eyes for a look at the daily drama he sees in his neighborhood. Backed by yet another impressive Statik Skeletah beat (does the man ever fail?), whose boarwork’s smooth feel contrasts the harsh theme of the track nicely, the cut follows the lives of two long suffering young people struggling with problems beyond their control. (Spoiler alert!) However, when the two meet each other, they realize that happiness can be found even when hope is bleak within. Yeah, that’s some deep ish. Fans can find more similarly high quality hip-hop on My Window’s home, DJ Quiz Presents: Quiz Knows a Mixtape, which dropped yesterday. And as always, keep it locked to the Booth for more.

Statik killed this beat. The production itself is worth putting in rotation, not to mention the cool hook and solid verses.

Statik is the MVP of well-used and uber creative soul samples. Donny is merely the recipient of Statik's stellar production work. Some serious lyrics that are executed with passion and intelligence.

this guy is back...im like ok...and then im like ok i like the concept...and the fills in the beat are ok but i felt the beat could have been smoother...now i call this great storytelling...and i like how he ended the story...this song isnt great but its a good album or mixtape filler i promise and i would actually listen to this again....small rotation

Respect to Goines for going after a storytelling flow like this, it's kind of the rap version of Crash. Truthfully, it doesn't grab me like I was hoping it would, but I'd gladly listen again.
Well, maybe not to many more times. I'm on my third listen and I'm starting to feel a little depressed.

Statik Selektah is one of my fav producers these dayz, he did some awsum stuff with Saigon awhile ago, this song is a beast and Don spitz nice.

Freakin' Statik man....Is there a track he hasn't won people over with his production talents? Goines is nice too, but this is Statik's track.
