Freestyle series alum, ATL fast-riser and country rhyme spitter Donnis is stepping back into the Booth with Tonight, a record off his Fashionably Late mixtape that’s now become an official single for his Fashionably Late EP. Produced by buzzing board master T-Minus, Tonight is a thumping ode to shutting down the strip in your respective city. Ok, so it’s not the most creative subject matter, but thankfully Donnis makes up for it with some interesting lyricism (check the Dru Hill reference) guaranteed to keep the party moving. The A-Town native has a knack for creating synth infused hip-hop party songs, his breakthrough Gone got play everywhere from the trendiest clubs to the most ghetto spots, and Tonight doesn’t sound much different, though I must admit I don’t think it has quite the same appeal as its predecessor. Regardless, you can look out for the Fashionably Late EP to arrive on September 28, a project that will hopefully earn Donnis both a title and release date for his highly anticipated debut album with his new major label home Atlantic Records.

Seems like Donnis is really being marketed/pushed as an artist who can deliver club/crossover bangers. The elements on display here seem to make for a catchy tune, but I prefer Donnis in a more controlled (more subdued) environment. I know, I'm being picky.

don't worry DJZ we'll get our fare share of a more subdued donnis but its not a bad thing to have your music playable in the clubs.

Was digging "Yup" more, but this has a similar sound. A good rotation joint, but not rotation status. Can't wait for the Ep.

Donnis has definitely been pushing the club joints lately, I think he has the spark to get it done with that scene. Either way, you can't deny his growth and the way he sounds more polished as an artist. This one can go in rotation, not sure where it fits though.

I don't understand. This came out on the Fashionably Late mixtape months ago. And now it's a single? Weird. Anyway, it's clear, as Z pointed out, that they're pushing him as Southern artist who can bridge the streets and expensive clubs, a lucrative spot if you can land it. I'd much rather hear the man go in lyrically, but I can't hate on success. Go get yours Donnis.
