Rolling down the city streets, banging some fresh tunes and perhaps enjoying a little quality kush on a sunny day is never not a good time, but to complete the picture one needs an appropriately fly whip. Booth favorite Donnis, for one, is a fan of the classics – on his latest mixtape leak, the freestyle series alum hops into his Ford Mustang to ride in style. Backed by the appropriately street-ready, piano loop/percussion boardwork of Syience, the artist trades the emotionally-fraught meditations of his last feature for rhymes about the perennial topics of weed, whips, women and cash – but does so with plenty of laid-back wit, lacing the beat with punchlines that range from the allusive (“My Hustle Grand, you ain’t seen me out with T.I.P.?”) to the risqué (“N*ggas feel my 16s like a child molester.”). Think you’ll be banging this one till the wheels fall off? More quality tunes await on Donnis’ Karmaloop-presented Southern Lights LP, scheduled to hit the ‘net for free download April 12.

This new project is shaping up to be a much different sound for Donnis. Personally, I think his style/vocal appeal works best with more energetic/up-tempo material, but being able to show off his versatility (and garnering a response) will give him and his team (at the label) an idea of how to work his talents into success.

The track is just average, he has a lot of lines but the production leaves much to be desired and the use of the word mustang doesn't do it for me.

Donnis' flow isn’t as impressive as some of his witty lyrics, and the weak beat brings this song down. The chorus doesn't do anything for me, and I find it to ruin the energy and flow of the song. It's ok, but nothing great. Donnis needs to improve his delivery, but his lyrics are pretty clever.

Maybach....Austin Martin.....Camaro..... I'm tired of these songs about cars.... not that it isnt a worthy topic but sometimes it seems more like a gimmick than an authentic love for the vehicle. The song was a good attempt though

For those who don't know, Donnis is a solid and very good artists. Listen to some of his past work from his Fashionably Late mixtape. He is just currently going for a unique sound.
@ Jay Flowins - And it's "Aston" Martin by the way. |
