Dr. Dre
The Weigh In EP

There are comebacks, there are epic comebacks, and then there’s something like what DMX is attempting. It’s now been seven years since we got a new album from X and in the meantime Earl Simmons has gone through more than his share of troubles. But it’s looking like DMX is finally ready to move back into the spotlight, starting with new the aptly-titled Sh*t Don’t Change. For this mixtape leak X grabs the piano driven, heavily clapping Dr. Dre beat first heard on Snoop Dogg’s Boss’ Life that sets a more contemplative mood. On the mic the years clearly haven’t changed X’s trademark rasp, although the always deceptively cerebral rapper sounds even more street wise and battle tested than ever. Throw in a hook from Snoop, fitting considering the beat was his originally, and you’ve got the makings of a serious comeback. (I know, I know, X has been here for years.) Those barley able to contain their excitement after Sh*t Don’t Change won’t have to wait long for some new music from DMX. His free EP The Weigh In is currently slated to hit the interwebs in a matter of hours, midnight May 15.
