As a genre-crossing pioneer of Reggae and Hip-Hop, South Florida’s DJ GQ has held the “official DJ” title for such big names as Akon, Mr. Cheeks and Kevin Little. Most recently, though, GQ has been on the grind with his Let ‘Em Know mixtape series (20 volumes in all) that follows in the footsteps of both Khaled and Drama. On the first single, Bad Boys, off his forthcoming full-length album, also titled Let ‘Em Know, GQ uses a unique combination of artists, enlisting DMX, along with reggae’s Junior Reid and Dawg E. Slaughter, to bring a special mixture of grit and island flair. Along with solid production from Blackout Movement (This Is Why I’m Hot), this well-done appetizer should tide you over until GQ’s main course is served sometime later this year.
Listen to DJ GQ's Bad Boys ft. DMX, Junior Reid & Dawg E Slaughter More songs from DJ GQ
The Chef is back! It's great to hear DMX spit with the same amount of passion and attitude he had in his prime with all the issues surrounding his personal life. The melody is very similar to "This Is Why I'm Hot," but Blackout throws in a lot of new sounds like the synthesizer and violins. Junior Reid was great on the "This Is Why I'm Hot" remix and he sounds great on hear as well. Which musical combination is better, reggae-rap or jazz-rap? DJ GQ has 20 volumes?! That's impressive.
Beat is great!!! TONE+Chef noticed something really hypnotizing about it which are the violins! Damn!!! That was a good and deserves a careful listen (I didn’t pay much attention at first)! I liked DMX’s flow; it matched the beat’s mood which is quite tense! Junior Reid was perfect for this!
This is FIIIIRE! I can't wait for the new DMX albums to come out in 2008...yes, it is 2 albums coming from him this year from his new record deal! I think he is finally back (well, I hope so). But this is definitely OLD DMX right here! He rips it and Junior Reid always delivers without much effort. Great Track! Classic to me!
I aint but 45 seconds into this joint and counting.....this sh!t is fire...this is the DMX I know that its dark and he ll and hot is hot flesh of my flesh ish and the beat funky.......Get em X.......even though DMX shoulda had another verse
As is evident from the above comments, DMX "is back." So the question is... Can DMX make a comeback album worth your hard earned money? Leave your thoughts.
DMX is an absoulute beast, everything that he spits i believe, he is the real deal. JA rule is good too, but ive yet to see the day he EVER comes out with something to touch DMX's creativty. The great depression, FLesh of my flesh, blood of my blood albums, still top most artist in my opinion.
I gotta cosign, Z if you could get a interview thats whats really good.....If he put heat on the album like this Ill drop a couple of dollars for the album..
LL Cool Chris: Your opinion no longer counts...did you seriously just compare DMX to Ja Rule!? I know you aren't saying he's better than X, but they have two COMPLETELY different styles.
ya i agree with you mmoore1127, he did his thang @*#$! it if he has to prove himself cause that's what he did! Give him his props for the song not because you want to see more cause there will be more.
Oh yeah... classic Dark Man. I'd definitely cop the comeback album - just out of loyalty to "It's Dark..." Plus I'd cop it out of curiousity - who else signed on to work with him? Will he go back to the original flow, or incorporate his (latest) personal issues into his lyrics (a la Lauryn Hill Unplugged)? What does he have to say about the current state of hip-hop? Inquiring minds wanna know...but I'm still bumping this cut 'til I find out.
Just to follow up on what DJ Blaze mentioned, DMX is dropping two albums on the same day this year! And guess what...one of them is a GOSPEL album! PRAISE THE LORD.
Z, a comeback album as strong as this would go platinum even in this era when it is as hard as ever… Just see how many comments this got! I guess it’s a record (considering positive comments, not that fight on Soulja Boy’s track)
i have always loved DMX if i had to say anything negative bout this joint it is that he is rappin to slow 4 my taste other than that i luv it...cant wait 4 that double album...not a gospel person but wit X it will be sumthin monumental....
I always thought DMX qas underated. His spits from the inside out, meaning his words come from the heart and soul , no matter what hes on he going to spit from the inside not giving you the outside looking in.
Actually heard this on DJ GQs Myspace a few weeks ago...glad to see it on DJ Booth...this is fire...awesome beat...DMX is BACK!!!!! Don't even mind Junior Reid in this either...somethin i needed to hear for a while
same old flow from X but anything junior reid is on bangs in the club...yet another jamaican takin this country by storm (other sean kingston). rememberance of another bad boy track think SHINE just before jail.
nice like it it has a nice great flow but dmx needs to speed up his flows he goes to slow but that is what makes him but the beat is hella good like the flows
yh this is great tune and finally DMX is back bout time, i liked DMX from the begining he came but he kind of died down and now hes back, great to hear him on tracks again. SICK TUNE
so dmx goes from thug to god back to thug...that was the fastest double rediscovery ever....even faster than mase..but mase didnt come back cursing in his @*#$!..still got love for dmx tho since "@*#$! wit D" that was my @*#$!!!
I couldn't picture DMX on this type of beat, but he ripped it. Junior Reed & Dawg E Slaughter is a good feature on this track and adds to the overall feel. I don't know why DMX's single "We in Here" off his last album didn't blow up like it should of. For those that are ready to say DMX is back, I don't think he ever left.
