DJ Pain1 - Now You Know
Artist: DJ Pain1
Featuring: Scott Knoxx
Producer: DJ Pain1
Album: The Waiting Game
Label: Imperial Music Group
Booth readers may not have been familiar with the scorching sounds of DJ Pain1 prior to the explosive impact of Roots earlier this month, but… well… Now You Know. With introductions out of the way, I don’t need to tell you how excited you should be for the Booth-exclusive world premiere of the Madison, Wisconsin DJ/producer’s latest single. Like its predecessor, this selection finds a lineup of lyrically-acute old and new-schoolers going in over some gritty, retro-informed boardwork. Unleashing their most potent ammunition over the headliner’s chopped-soul boardwork are, in order, Smif-N-Wessun emcee Tek, Digital Underground alum Money-B, Milwaukee repper Scott Knoxx, Queens vet Grand Daddy IU and Madison buzzmaker MC Starr. To top it all off, Pain flips iconic samples by Jeru the Damaga, (Ya Playin Yaself), Nas (It Ain’t Hard to Tell) and more on the hook. Who spit the standout verse? With this lineup, I expect a lively debate. Whatever your opinion, though, don’t miss the freshness in store on Pain1’s Booth-sponsored The Waiting Game street album, set to hit our mixtape page for free streaming and download May 10.

DJ/Producers always seem to add something special to a beat. I think its the knowledge of sound quality, and timing. The beat is crazy, and takes me back to the early 2000's. Delivery in the verses is decent too. Oh snap! just got to the breakdown/bridge! My rating is a solid 4-stars JUST FOR THAT. You don't hear breakdown/bridges like that where it changes to that degree but still sounds great with the original track. Putting that in there tells me DJ Pain1 is thinking "Yeah I produced, but I've got so much dope music I had to squeeze one more beat in there!"

I echo Equinox' comments. Seriously, I don't need to re-write what he just wrote. Read his feedback and imagine that DJ Z said it first lol.

Fire. Each Emcee holds his own, but Pain1 is the highlight of the track. Sometimes, the beat and production is so good that it makes the rappers sound better. This is one of those tracks. Great scratching and the change up is seamless, it doesn't disrupt the flow of the song at all.

I think the production "TOTALLY" outshines the rappers. The production is awesome! Rappers, "ok"....

The production comes on strong. I must say it kind of outshines the rest of the song. Lyrically, the features do a solid job of supporting the beat, though.

The production is obviously solid. I wouldn't say it outshines the vocals to any negative extent. All in all a good song.
