DJ Kay Slay - See the Light
Artist: DJ Kay Slay
Featuring: AZ , Raekwon , Ghostface Killah
Producer: DJ Green Lantern
Album: More Than Just a DJ
Label: Streetsweepers
Although he’s been in the game a bit longer, DJ Kay Slay is now applying the “DJ Khaled” method to his new album More Than Just a DJ. Khaled is known for making big-budget posse cuts happen between major artists like Lil Wayne, T.I. and more. We can now say that Kay Slay is Khaled’s underground equivalent, as the Drama King recruits a few hip hop legends to join him on his new track See the Light. Laying the foundation for the track is producer Green Lantern, who laces the bouncy East Coast beat with a dope scratch hook to great effect. The verses are provided by golden-era legends AZ, Raekwon, and Ghostface Killah, with all emcees complementing the record’s true hip-hop feel. While AZ spits a disappointingly lukewarm opening verse, the Chef spices things up with a habañero hot middle verse and Ghost (who is also sampled on the record) drops an energetic 16 to close out the track like Mariano in the 9th. Will Kay Slay’s version of the big-name posse cut add up to rave reviews in the Booth? That’s up to you to decide.

I think Ghost definitely came the hardest on here. Raekwon and AZ were tight but Ghost came with so much energy on here, it was great. Solid production from Green Lantern as well. 3.5

This track goes hard here, I agree w/ GStan, Ghost spitted the hardest rhymes here. AZ and Rae were nice but there laid back style didn't fit well but Ghostface's fast flow went great over this beat.

What is the point of Dj's having albums, i feel they should least produce the track and let's stop saying whats hip-hop and whats not because its all hip-hop just different sounds and thats what makes hip-hop one of the most influential genres...but the beat is ok and the old skool sound is cool but i dont feel anything special...

I liked everything about this record except Kay Slay's opening monologue (brother, we know you've been doing this for a long ass time) and GL's production work (leftover beat?). AZ's verse was too short, Rae sounded good but not great, and Ghost (as always) took home the turkey (thats the expression, right?)

@DJZ Took home the turkey? You mean brought home the bacon? Who knows what you Midwesterners say.
Anyway, I feel like no one truly understands how good Ghost is (he's one of my top 5) and so I'm happy we got another display of his mic skills. Dope track, probably my favorite today. |

Considering the talent being brought to the mic on this track, im not impressed with the production that was provided to these damn near legendary artists.

A light neck-snappin' beat, laced with throwback East Coast gritty lyrical content makes for a decent listen. Rotation-Stuff.
