Western beatsmiths beware; DJ Honda‘s here with an affordable, reliable, and fuel-efficient brand of hip-hop that’s taking the U.S. by storm, and he’s got some of the genre’s biggest names standing behind the quality of his product. Okay, that might be a little alarmist. And he’s actually based in New York. And he’s been in the game for quite a while. In any case, Honda does have one formidable list of connects, as evidenced by his latest LP’s star-studded guest lineup. On new single (and Booth debut) Magnetic Arts, the Hokkaid?-born beatsmith taps rap vet Mos Def to flow over his lushly-sampled Chipmunk-soul instrumental, and the combo of Def’s time-tested lyrical braggadocio and Honda’s nostalgic boardwork is sure to leave old-school heads smiling. If you’re hungry for more of the veteran DJ/producer’s retro-unformed jams, you don’t have long to wait; on Tuesday, August 5th, Honda’s coming to infect fans across the nation with… on second thought, I’m not going to touch that joke—he’s going to release a new album entitled hIV.

Despite the recycled nature of the verses, it still sounds fresh as ever ... DJ Honda gives Mos Def's recycled verse a dope beat to rip with plenty of soul and ultra energetic horns. Lovin it ... BANGER!!!
