“Yes, we can;” these three simple words could end up changing the world come Election Day. In honor of Barack Obama’s now-famous quote, DJ Green Lantern has created the Yes, We Can mixtape. For the project, Green Lantern has remixedBlack President, a cut originally found on Nas’s Untitled album, with three new voices respected for their wit as much as their grit. David Banner, Talib Kweli and Busta Rhymes all wax poetic on what it would be like to have Obama as our next president, the latter personally handing George Bush his walking papers. This remix of Black President is just one more example of hip-hop’s legacy of raising political awareness in a positive, empowering manner (but try telling that to FOX News).
This sample is so ill! I like how they sampled all this stuff! This is the type of things hip hop should make all the time! BUSTA IS A BEAST AGAIN! Where is this passion on his solo joints? I like the breakdown with Talib. I knew he was going to smash it. David Banner held it down as well. He needs to spit on this social type stuff more too...I know his mind is on it based on how he speaks outside of songs. I see this is Pt.1. I hope there are more versions including Lupe, Kanye and Common. This is a classic song! Very abstract sounding and just full of knowledge. They need to play this on the radio! Especially on Nov. 4!
I somehow doubt Obama will adopt this version as his election soundtrack, but, it is a solid effort nonetheless. I would have preferred to hear Nas spit a new verse, but Lantern's production work is creative (incorporating the audio clips).
I really like the production on this, the snare drum is sick! As for the lyrical content, each and every artist represents in their own way here. Their flows are all different but are all on point and each do a great job. The older version is preferred by me though, this is kind of all over the place. Good mixtape jam though.
o_m_gosh those drums are hella annoy-n and so iz that girl! and i've also said this b4...:who tha hell carez what color our president iz because it aint bout that @ all!....itz about how good of a job they do...i hate that now we have a black man running everyone iz making a huge deal about voting...he aint no different than anyotha man. now, n-e-way, thiz coulda been good if it had a different beat becuz all their rap-n iz good...so itz ok.
Unfortunately WOW being black is very different from being any other man. We'd like to get to a point where being black is overlooked, but we are not there yet as a planet. Life will soon teach us all that Wow's idea of color not being a factor is actually they way we should see ourselves, but that is just not the case. I'm happy that a man who is not black is leading a song about the pride of having a black president. That gives me hope! In the mean time, I do like nas song much better than this one musically. Every one did a great job on the rapping. Busta's verse stands out to me. I guess its because I'm not used to him making music like this lately. OBAMA!!!!!!
no difference n republicans or democrats 4 me ....so ima say @*#$! this ...political is political...no changin that fact n me....sorry djbooth......when it comes 2 politics every1 is on the same agenda cuz papa answers the questions when it comes 2 big money n favors....
In this song I'm listening to the background music only. I don't like very much how they're rapping! Obama things do not interest me so much for now, I know his election will affect the whole world but for now I prefer listening to something else! Even though it's not my type of song I recognise it's good, I'm feeling the chorus especially. It's in rotation but I won't rate coz it's a song you Americans would appreciate more and I respect it
BDF44 I agree with all you wrote...well in my little, own world I have never understood why humans have been and still are so stupid to judge a person by his complexion. That's why I would like to write my graduation thesis about racism towards black people in the Usa...here in Italy there are many black guys and, as I've already written some time ago, I like them :pPpPp. I also agree with what WOW:) says but you know, a black president means so much to people who has always been ostracized. Personally, I like Obama for what he says...and if he's black it's ok, this will show some kind of equality among white and black people
JUST got my new comp (otherone was toast, lol), so I can't hear this song from here, but I have the one on the mixtape, It's effortlessly beautiful and powerful, and a real remix. Part Two is just as good. EVERYONE GET "UNTITLED" AND THE "YES WE CAN" MIXTAPE. Real stuff.
Ehhh, maybe not as good on the second listen. Still, the mixtape was very well done, so big up to Green Lantern on that. I think the third Black President (Remix Pt. 2) is the best out of all three versions of the song.
