DJ Drama’s upcoming and long awaited release, Gangsta Grillz: The Album, will indeed set off a celebration. On December 4th, the ‘official mix-album’ will land in stores and is set to feature every artist under the sun and their first cousin (only slightly kidding). Kicking off the festive theme are Virginia-natives Pharrell Williams and arguably the most underachieving duo of all-time, The Clipse. Their collaborative effort is entitled, Cheers, and is produced by Grand Hustle mainstay, Khao. While first week numbers for Gangsta Grillz might not be a cause for excitement, releasing an album and not being stuck in jail are certainly worthy of a toast.
I really want to know why all of these DJ's are doin this 'release an album that i contribute 0 vocals to and just fill with other artists to make money' thing. I aint gonna hate because most the songs are tight, but come on we've had DJ kahled, DJ drama, DJ felli fel....who else?!?!
Pharrell has a lot of improving to do as an MC, but he works well with featured artists. Clipse is the most unique duo in hip-hop today hands down. The beat isn't something any MC can spit on, it's suits the VA style of hip-hop perfectly. Star Traaaakkkk. I really don't know what role DJ Drama is playing in this upcoming project under his name. Since he didn't produce every track, did he just recruit everyone together?
Agreed Blaze. Pharrell got crazy style (love the live instrumentation sound) and the Clipse are some of my favorite MCs. Not just anybody could rhyme over this beat.
Hating pharrell on ny track... n da beat is just plain crap... a lil 2 fancy 4 BS but way overdone 4 okay... Clipse have some nice lyrics, n Drama is just bad...
