Diggy Simmons - Oh Yeah
Artist: Diggy Simmons
Featuring: Pharrell Williams , Lupe Fiasco
Producer: Black the Beast & Omen
Album: Airborne Mixtape
Label: Atlantic Records
Whether you think of Diggy Simmons as a serious emcee, gimmick, spoiled brat or some combination of all of the above, one thing is undeniable - he’s going big. Being the son of a hip- hop legend, Diggy has the luxury of recruiting guest features that make his tracks so much better, as showcased on his new mixtape cut Oh Yeah. The first verse is handled by Lupe Fiasco, who verbally tip-toes his way through the thumping production provided by Black the Beast and Omen, and while Pharrell also lays down some bars that come off as a bit awkward, if anything Skateboard P just adds to the overall swagger of the song. By this time you may forget that Diggy is on the joint, but he reminds you with a final verse that flaunts his precise flow, and he even has a couple of lines that show promise. At the end of the day, Oh Yeah is quality music and I have no reason to believe that the young spitter’s delayed mixtape, Airborne, will contain anything but. Just don’t go Detox on us Diggy, the people will only wait so long.

I really really like this record. The production is outstanding - by far the best part of the song - and Diggy more than holds his own next to Lupe and Skateboard P. I found the decision to place his verse last a bit odd (Diggy should have held his own to kick off the record), but that is just me being a picky music listener.

Wow, this is my 3rd 5 star rating in one day! The last time I heard Pharrell and Lupe Fiasco in the same song was in "Us Placers," which is one of my favorite songs. This one isn't as good but still deserves 5-stars.

I'd have to say, he has arguably the best verse in this. Him and Lupe go at it but Pharrell seems to try to hard. Great job at the effore and best song by him so far. No doubt the kid has talent and he does it for the love of it not the money.

One of Lu's most boring verses. Pharrell was horrible. Nice production almost saves it.

The production is excellent and automatically had me hooked. Lupe does good on his verse, I like Pharrell's verse also. This is my first time hearing Diggy Simmons and I am impressed, he does a good job lyrically and sounds good over the production. Nice, solid record.

when i heard that gospel-choir in the beat, it really got me revved up for something special. lupe starting with diggy finishing and a bit of pharrell in the middle makes for a big track. lupe is his creative self, pharrell fills some space and diggy blows me away and by putting himself at the end, you finish with the sound of him spitting, a good ploy i reckon. big love for this kid

Although I've heard many good things about Diggy, I've never actually properly heard his stuff....now I've heard this banger I can say dude is NICE! I'm amazed Diggy is 16; he has talent beyond his years.
Lupe KILLED it, he is back on his BS hard!!! Looking forward to his album. Pharrell was meh for me, a good example of style of substance. What really brings it home for me is the beat, it's exceptional! Definitely checking for Diggy's mixtape! 4.5 stars |

Why is everyone stealing their flow from Drake and Ross. (Pause punchline) I like the record overall. Not great, but I like. Diggy is growing! Dopeness!

I agree with Z. On most tracks like this (lesser known rapper with mega features) the lesser known rapper goes first, otherwise a lot of folks will simply cut the track off after the last big verse. Here, by the time Diggy's verse comes around it feels like a Lupe track, but I have to hand it to the (young) man, he does well yet again. I think even the haters are realizing the kid's got skill.

I agree with Z, Diggy's verse should have been first instead of last.

Black the Beast's production was alright on Diggy's first Mixtape, but this one is way better. This beat balances the synths, and the drums alot better. Lupe's verse was awesome. Diggy's great, Skate Board P's average. P was trying to deliver his rap like alot of current rappers flow ie: Wayne, Young Money. Delivers a line, and then a single word to describe it: "it was too EARLY, just tryin to tell you whats happening, SHIRLEY". Its been done so much. Otherwise 4-stars for Diggy's grind. He seemed to come out of nowhere with these skills, coming from a fan of Run's House, who knew?

Nothing special about this one. Only production and Lupe are worth praising. I'm not feeling this kid (Diggy) at all. I mean he's 15 years old, what the f*ck he rappin' about.

the production is sick on this. Lupe's verse is the standout in my opinion. I like some of Diggy's stuff, but I have to say I think he's highly overrated. However....he holds his own on the catchy chorus.
