While money is the motivation behind most rappers’ entering the business, often times it takes a deadly turn. Just ask Atlanta’s DG Yola, who in March of ‘07 was almost killed in a robbery attempt-turned-attempted murder. Taking advantage of the fact that he has lived to tell the tale, Yola warns all street visitors about making the wrong moves in pursuit of that glorified Money Money. While Jim Jonsin‘s upbeat production is somewhat inharmonious with the serious tone of the song, it might get Money Money spun at radio, which could serve as Yola’s very own hood PSA. The oft-delayed debut, Gutta World, is currently set to drop sometime this spring off Atlantic Records.
havin heard too much from yola da great, but he reminds me of Plies with the way he delivers his verses, I could actually see him n Plies puttin a track together
Am I hearing things or do all the tracks on DJBooth today have a deep similarity with their productions' synthesizers? DG Yola once again puts out a catchy hook, this has the potential to get at least some where like "Ain't Gon Let Up."
Hey Tone+Chef... the irony of your comments are that the industry is just headed in the collective same direction; both musically, and bizness-wise. Yola is lucky to be alive, so I doubt he gives a damn if he gets a bad rating on here or ever gets his album out. I love the honesty on this one. Don't judge this song by the title friends!
Usualy hate songs abowt "gettin money" but this is good.. hez not boastin and not goin on too much bowt how he came from da hood and how he was poor.. itz not your tipical "money" song tryin to make the artist sound like a legend for comin out of the hood on top.. i like it!!
