If you read DG Yola’s official bio (found on his MySpace page), it states that his forthcoming debut album, Gutta World, will not simply be a “trunk rattling collection of hot beats and tight rhymes,” but rather “a handbook for self-determination.” Though plenty of artists probably feel the same way about their individual projects, not many have been shot in the face just months before their debut album was supposed to be released (well, besides one notable exception). On the new single, I Know U Like Dat, Yola does as his bio states and rhymes over producer C-Note’s ‘trunk-rattling beat,’ but lost in his hyper-flow is the first chapter of that handbook. The long-awaited release of Gutta World will take place on May 15.
This has a decent swagger bounce to it. The chorus is OK. The beat has some character to it. His flow is better on other tracks than it is here. I probably wouldn't listen to it after this time. It gets a little repetitive sounding after 2 minutes into it.
He always sounds like his rapping with food in his mouth. But this beat is killing them. I am actually bumping to this track real hard. His intensity is explosive, fierce, and insane. Ohh ... I just read that he got shot in the mouth; that explains why he flows like he does.
