In 2007, powerhouse label Epic announced it was teaming up with indie-major label Koch to release albums by several up-and-coming urban artists. Having introduced the world to now-superstar Sean Kingston and DJBooth mainstay Yung Berg, the partnership is ready to unleash their newest artist: straight out of Kingston, Jamaica, reggae artist Demarco. Offering a tribute to all the Fallen Soldiers in his home streets, Demarco’s voice has an old-school feel (enhanced of course by the now famous vocoder), and is accompanied by his very own production work. The Epic/Koch team is 1 ½ out of 2 so far, will Demarco continue the hit streak? Find out later this year when his debut album hits stores.
At first he sounded very similar to Sean Kingston, he even looks like Sean. But as the track progressed, I heard originality and matured voice. The talk box works well on this track, I just don't know if I can listen to him using that effect for a whole album.
Dj Z
Fallen soldier is fairly an old tune. It been remixed already. And its been #1 on hype tv and other reggae/ dancehall charts for more than 2-3 weeks now. djbooth yall been sleeping on dancehall reggae bloodcloth. rebooth up the reggae chart and pull up the 2070 riddim songs and Queen Ifrica's - "Daddy" song
Joe Grind... the medium you speak of is NOT mainstream. DJBooth is bringing this song MAINSTREAM. 99% of our readers do not watch HYPE TV and this song hasn't even been officially sent to radio yet. Heck, his label hasn't even done promo photos. With that said, if you have any other suggestions for dance hall or reggae features, let us know!
Dj Z,
You saying dancehall is not mainstream, Well from what I'll seen yall got alot of songs on the site that get no MAINSTREAM play. And guess what I luv this site for that. Ya website is called Djbooth not MAINSTREAM DJBooth. I dont yall from Dancehall is on the rise, no non-dancehall-club or non-dancehall-dj that I don't play dancehall or reggae tune in their sets. Shyt if you look at whats happening in hip hop - alots of the sampling and calbo is from jamaican artist. The one founders of HIP HOP DJ KOOL HERC is jamaican. Biggie Small jamaican, alot of other great rappers are jamaican. Shyt yall givin fuckin play to KIA Shine, but fuck a Bounty Killa, Beenie, Sizzla, Capleton and many other great artists who have put out great records over and over. Fuck all the great producers too, the sly & robbies, scatta, don corleon, and penthouse. here is a suggestions how about payin Dancehall & Reggae some respect - aleast a 10 charts that update once a month. shyt ask any other dj up here, they'll get you the tracks if yall can't get dem.
Joe Grind: You misunderstood my post fam. I am not saying dance hall music isn't mainstream. It is. I was merely pointing out that your reference to 'HYPE TV' isn't a mainstream means of getting music, which is why to most people, this would be new. We greatly appreciate your membership to the site, but understand we have a reason for everything we post and when its posted. We NEVER post old material, and my earlier message was just to clarify. Hopefully this clears everything up!
Wow! Thank you "Joe Grind". You put in overtime. I guess Djbooth don't understand how BIG reggae music is... WORLDWIDE. I can look pass danchall not being frequently aired on a hip hop site but don't try to minimize what's MASSIVE.
This song is a banger no matter what and i have had it for 2weeks now who cares 2 weeks to us djs who look for new music every day is old but to a person who just listens to the radio or buys cds might not hear this track for a while. Not every one is in a record pool or downloads illegally even if you download illegally half the stuff thats downloaded is whats on the charts at the time ...
Wow...I gotta say it....this dude is the best yet to use the Voice Box. I'll give him a 5 for that, cuz theres been a hell of alota dudes and chicks tryin that shit!
I’m not English speaker but even I understand that Z didn’t mean what yall arguing about! He didn’t say a thing against reggae music, trying to minimize it. Matter of fact is, to us members of the site, this is new, cuz we can’t find it on other mainstream sources of music (not that the music itself isn’t mainstream, it’s just the source). Anyway this is a hiphop site, so if you don’t find reggae here, it’s no disrespect.
Just heard the other version of this song where he's using swearing.
Sounds weak with the swearing - says 'life is so fcuking real'
Clean version suits the lyrics and the flow much betta...
well I am of Jamaican heritage and I live in Toronto, Canada and trust me a Jam aint a Fete with out some Dance hall or Soca so!
I feel what Joe Grind is sayin, but I do get what Dj Z is sayin as well!
on the real I wish yall would put some of My people music back up in here
