D.C. Don Juan - Rock Wit You [Premiere]
Artist: D.C. Don Juan
Producer: LX
Album: Juanted (Destroy & Rebuild)
Label: Battery/Jive Records
D.C. Don Juan‘s previous features, Hands Up and Get It Like Me (Say Yeah) found the DMV up-and-comer focused primarily on his hustle, with women and partying only addressed in passing. On Rock Wit You, the third and final leaked track (a Booth-exclusive world premiere) off his Juanted (Destroy and Rebuild) mixtape, we finally get to hear the man let loose and live up to his literary namesake. LX mans the boards this time around, serving up a synth-driven instrumental with a smoother flavor than the Best Kept Secret produced beats we’ve heard Don Juan spit over to date; nonetheless, he blazes the club-ready track with typical panache, indulging in glass after glass of Rozay as he spits (well, sing-raps) braggadocious game to a model-esque shawty. Kevin Ross, a DMV R&B up-and-comer previously heard on Ja Rule single The Life, handles guest duties, tying the track together with some silky hook and backing vocals. Digging the pop-appealing style Don Juan showcases here? You’ll find plenty more high-quality tunes for the club and streets on his new, Booth-sponsored street album, set to hit our mixtape page on Tuesday, August 10.

Too many artists try to make "club-ready" records when they know that it isn't necessarily in their best interest (or their wheel house). No worries, Don Juan isn't in this category.
To this point we have not heard Don risk his artistic credibility in the name of bottle popping, but have no fear - he doesn't do so here. Everything works really well in unison and this is a very enjoyable listen. |

Out of all the songs that Don has recorded for his project, this one is my absolute favorite! I love the pop/club feel. I love Kevin's voice. And my little brother LX came lovely with the beat. Thank you to DJ Booth for the support and love shown. I can't wait until the world gets to hear Don's project on Tuesday!

I love the production here. combine that with the smooth hook work, and a good job from Don Juan and you have a very good club-ready track. This track especially i like because there's something about it that separates it from the usual formulaic club tracks other artists do. I like it.

I can't lie. It took me a couple of spins to co-sign off on this. Ross' contributions on the background vocals and chorus are exceptional, but this type of record doesn't play to Don Juan's strengths as an artist.

As Z alluded to, you always hold our breath when you hear an artist really go for that club/pop records, but I can exhale after hearing this one from D.C. To be completely frank, he's the weakest part of the track - both the beat and the vocals work better than his flow, which needs to be smoothed out a bit to work on a cut like this. Still, a nice, enjoyable record. I'm stoked to hear the whole project.
