David Rush - Party Like We
Artist: David Rush
Producer: A.N.T.
Album: Welcome to Rushia II
Label: XBMG\MR 305 Inc.
Though he guested on Frankie J.‘s Dream Girl back in December, the emcee formerly known as Young Boss has taken his sweet time bringing us a new solo feature. Ah well, guess you can’t Rush greatness. (I’d apologize for that awful pun but, considering the title of David Rush‘s latest project, I’m just gonna call it even). Mixtape leak Party Like We finds the Jersey native departing from the pop-oriented material we’ve heard from him to date to bring us something a little more retro, though no less body-moving. A.N.T. looks to DJ Kool’s iconic Let Me Clear My Throat for production inspiration, slicing and dicing the ‘96 single’s gruff hook and bridge into a hypnotic, bass-booming club concoction. On the lyrical tip, Rush keeps the energy sky-high, delineating his party philosophy in straightforward yet engaging verses. Wallflowers and V.I.P.-room lurkers may not agree with his approach but, hey, who needs ‘em? Those who know how to have a good time can find this cut and plenty more party fuel on David Rush’s Welcome to Rushia II (see what I mean?) street album, available now online.

There may be something wrong with you if you didn't turn your volume up on your laptop at least a little bit as soon as this beat hit. I mean damn! David Rush definitely knows how to get the party started, and I loved the old school approach with this particular record that allows you to get in that feel good mood and enjoy fun music.

Every hip hop fan, young or old, should be familiar with DJ Kool's classic "Let Me Clear My Throat." For those who shockingly are not up to speed on the hip hop classic, have no fear Mr. Rush is here. And yes, I rhymed the end of that last sentence for fun. I am usually not a fan of artists who try to resurrect quality older material (because they usually ruin it), but Rush does the song justice and for that reason I could see it being played in the clubs in 2011.

It's the ol club conundrum for me. I love the DJ Kool sample, and I could see this turning the clb pistachios, but I'm not a big club head, and on my headphones at home I'm just not picking up the full energy.
