There was a quote that stuck with me from Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Making the Band: “Emotions will have you broke.” I guess that philosophy comes into play when choosing tracks for an album too… although I wouldn’t have nixed this one. Mean-mugger David Banner and super-producer 9th Wonder have let a novel loose on their new offering What Did I Do?, a record that shows the rugged yet empathetic plight of a man whose main tenderoni is looking for love elsewhere. Not since Ghostface‘s Never Be the Same Again has a rapper truly captured the emotion of being unequivocally hurt by a woman, and this time around without Carl Thomas. With 9th always consistent behind the boards and Banner putting his trademark southern drawl on this great storyline, it would indeed have been Pulitzer-worthy. Unfortunately, we won’t see What Did I Do? at the awards ceremony with the rest of the tracks for the duo’s Death of a Popstar album, dropping November 9. So download this joint now, or live with the fact that eventually this song will be gone forever.

I always love to hear that a dope record "didn't make the final cut." Naturally, that means we, the listening public, are in store for one heck of an album if excellent records were left on the studio hard drive. That is the case here - Banner and 9th have raised my expectations bar.

Feelin this one Mr. Banner. Has that K.R.I.T. feel to it, with the gritty, sampled production matched with Banner's emotional and thought-provoking flow. I'm ready for this project.

David Banner went from making songs like "Play" to these songs that actualy have a meaning. Impressive! I'm looking forward to this project, has truly developed as an artist over the last few years.

Excellent, simply excellent. As I've written before, you never know which side of Banner you're going to get, and I enjoy the Play side, but when he gets serious, his delivery's among the best in the game. This album's going to be ridiculous.

Man I love David Banner, he's just a rapper I have huge respect for and enjoy about 90% of his music, man you can here the emotion and passion pouring out. Loving it.

This is a classic from Banner! Mad props to tbook! Man what you know about Lil Jones?! lol them was the days when Banner was at his best, for real! Sellin his mix cds out his back pack at Jackson State!!! Yup! Real fan right here! Awesome track!
