Ever ask yourself: when is it too soon to sample a record? Well, David Banner asked himself that very question and the answer he came up with is “never!” Despite the fact that Lil’ Wayne’s smash hit Lollipop is about to enter its 15th week on the charts, and, is still one of the top five most-played records at urban radio nationally, Banner has happily jacked Wayne’s “Shawty Say…” line and used it as the theme for the second single off his long-overdue album, The Greatest Story Ever Told. The difference between David Banner and most artists, however, is that the Mississippi native has actually brought Wayne aboard for the project and the two friends shot a video for the record following this week’s BET Awards in Los Angeles.
Note: The streaming of “Shawty Say” has temporarily been suspended.
Listen to David Banner's Shawty Say ft. Lil' Wayne
Good sample! No Great Sample. I don't know where yall get off sayin banner is done. I heared one a yall say that. Not true. He droped the ball with a few tracks but hey who don't. This one is a good one.
Mr. Banner got something with this track. It has triple C's written all over it (car, crib, and club). The beat drops hard and the flow is fresh-a-licious!
This production is mad ill. David Banner is decent on this. This presence is cool. This ain't really my type of track, but the hook is catchy. I'll throw it in rotation.
Is David Banner really trying to gain airplay through Lil Wayne's never ending popularity? David Banner barely spits on this track and his tone doesn't sound right. The Lil Wayne sample is played WAY too many times. If I want to listen to "Lollipop," all I have to do is flip the radio station.
The beat actually has bounce, but WTF was he thinkin to use a stupid Lil Wayne sample??? I hope his album flops HARD! Also I don't get what's the clue behind a so meaningful album title "The Greatest Story Ever Told". everything he put out so far is about how dope he is, clubs, about some broads, cars. That album title "belonged" to Saigon!! And this sucker really said he didn't know about Saigon's album title. haha yeah, fo sure. so change it to "I keep getting wacker and wacker"
David Banner's lyrics are straight up garbage. The only reason this song even sounds good is cuz Wayne's part. Sampling it was a good idea because that's the only thing that makes it go. Listen to the lyrics and he aint even rhyming and he sucks.
david banner can't do that putting lil wayne only on the chorus from past experience(9mm) lil wayne should be spittin on this song it would only make this song better this song isn't that good in fact the only reason why i listen is because it had lil wayne
beats bumpin but Banner's flow I'm not really feelin on this. its just kinda dull when he spits and it doesn't fit the bangin production, the sample is okay, but it is unoriginal and pity that he's tryin to get success off Wayne's "Lollipop". Its aight, but I don't see this blowin up big time. Decent single that bumps.
he dont stick it...he dont lick it ...he dont take me out to the movies and buy me liquor...damn i hear that alot in my bedroom...this song is straight fire...banner knows dem women need men like us
wayyy to much sampling lately....

He could always try making his own chorus. That might be a decent song. This one, though, not so much.
