With his previous two features, unreleased joints Ayo and King’s Ransom, Dao Jones has employed the trendy stratagem of leaking dope records that won’t be on his next project, thereby leading listeners to assume that what did make the cut must be downright mind-blowing. Of course, you can’t keep your audience in suspense forever. Today, the Saratoga Springs, New York native’s back with the world premiere of Mr. October, a record that will be on his forthcoming EP. This dark, autumnal jam finds the artist once again handling mic and production duties solo, crafting an alternately slow-rolling and jittery synth-percussion instrumental to back his determined reflections on the musical hustle. The overall lyrical mood is pensive and poetic, but Jones doesn’t neglect to drop a few (hilarious) wisecracks into the mix: “All you talk ‘bout is Glock, what, you got glaucoma?” Topped off with the artist’s own impressive sung vocals on the hook, Mr. October should only leave listeners more excited for Dao’s DJBooth.net-sponsored Cole King EP, arriving on our mixtape page for free streaming and download March 2.

Still traveling, still busy...
A new sound from Dao, after the last two features, but still impressed with his range and skill set. Rapper, hook singer, and producer? Not many can do all three. |

Z just 'cause you're traveling doesn't mean you have to be lazy on the rating, if not many can do all three why is this only a 3 star for you? When you have more time to elaborate -- much appreciated brotha.

Despite being a triple threat (Rapper, hook singer, producer) I think the track is average if not slightly above. The production is on point and he has some good bars in there but there is nothing special.
***I am not one to compare much but compared to yelawolf (who I think he sounds and flows like) he is just ok. Infact Yelawolf would have killed this beat. |

The beat is simple and it really makes the mood. He's got something going for him and I can't wait to hear more new stuff from him.

That beat is hypnotizing. Dao jones doesn't overly-impress with his lyrics or the chrous, but they are solid.

Is it possible to change this to classic? I've had this on heavy repeat for at least a month...
