Da Circle - Guillotine Rap
Artist: Da Circle
Featuring: Sha Stimuli
Producer: Dub Z
Album: The Safe
Label: Viper Records
217-years-ago French queen Marie Antoinette’s head was placed under the guillotine when, infuriated by her opulent wealth in the face of intense poverty and hardship, the people revolted. Now, modern day rap duo Da Circle are continuing that revolutionary sentiment by placing similarly weak and materialistic rappers under the chopping block with their new single Guillotine Rap. Circle, comprised of NYC mic killers Fatz D’ Assassin and Goodtime Slim, are making their DJBooth debut with Guillotine, and from the moment Dub Z’s pounding, boom-bap beat hits our headphones, the duo’s take no prisoners approach to hip-hop is clear: Fatz and Slim’s rhymes are as slow and high-caliber as shotgun blasts, with guest rapper and Booth favorite Sha Stimuli jumping in to switch up the pace with yet another flowing, high-quality verse. If you’re a rapper living in a modern day Palace of Versailles, you might want to, in the words of the all-mighty Wu-Tang Clan, protect ya neck. Guillotine Rap is the first leak off Da Circle’s Statik Selektah hosted project The Safe, coming sometime later than tomorrow.

I like this record, but that has more to do with the production work of Dub Z (not for his name) than anything else. Da Circle's bars are high-energy and raw, which match the beat well. But, I just don't see any repeat listens in the future.
Sidenote: I have heard most of "The Safe" and there are some real heavy bangers on the project. Hopefully, we will be cleared to feature another in the coming weeks. |

Some of that real NY, no holds barred ish. Definitely something for when I'm on my revolutionary ish - although I have to say the track's impact lies more in the beat than the lyrics.
