I was as surprised as anyone else when I found out that Curren$y’s new single was about worldwide strife, including China’s growing conflict with its labor class and Poland’s ability to avoid a recession. Just kidding, it’s about weed and drank, and it’s as good as anything he’s ever done. His new track, The Hangover, is just one more of those good mellow vibes that listeners come to appreciate from Fly Spitta, and that’s a good thing. Together with Mikey Rocks (of The Cool Kids), Curren$y laces his smooth bars over some sedated (and talented) production from Ski Beatz, all while discussing the gifts that come from being a rising rap star; “The game in my pocket like a Nintendo DS/ I left my last one in my jet.” If you liked getting high to this one from the Louisiana native (metaphorically, of course), be sure to keep an eye out for his latest joint…I mean album, Pilot Talk, due to finally light up our eardrums on July 13.

Curren$y's status in the rap game has risen to epic proportions (hell, he's on the bill for our Big K.R.I.T. x SOB's show Wednesday evening) over the past 3 years. Part of the appeal, I believed, had to do with his ties to former friend/label boss Lil Wayne. At the current time, however, I know it has nothing to do with his past and everything to do with his future.
His approach, musically, isn't anything out-of-this-world, but his execution is almost always (98%) on point. Such is the case here. Good stuff.

Curren$y straight kills it. No one is ahead of him in my eyes right now in the game. Cant wait to get pilot talk. Does anyone know if Pilot Talk is going to be out in hard copies?

Great record from Spitta, I don't know for sure if I really like Ski's beat but maybe it'll just take some time to get use to. Mikey and Spitta both make a good pair as well, Pilot Talk should be a great album for the summer.

Just like Wiz Khalifa, I don't see what people see in this guy. And what do ya know, they are like the same artist (Rap mostly about weed, and occasionally throw in rhymes about girls and money. How original).
I can see why people like him (stoners), but he definitely aint nothin special. And he MOST DEFINITELY IS NOT THE BEST IN THE GAME RIGHT NOW. Yes, that was directed at supraman. No one knows who the hell he is outside of these damn hip hop sites. Get off his d1ck man. How can you hear rappers like Emninem, Kanye West, J Cole, Luda, Lupe, and plenty of others, and say that Currensy can out-rhyme them all??????? I guess its an opinion, but its definitely an opinion that I can't fvckin stand and agree with. Too many d1ckriders period. Not only for Currensy, but for every single rapper. Now that I got that outta the way, I actually like this song. But I don't like Currensy and all of the people on and around his tip. |

does that ever happen to anyone else that u dont bother to listen to a song based only on his name or song title? i say this cuz i never listened to Curren$y before this cuz his name and the only reason i did listen to this is cuz of the song title. |

yeah joe, curren$y and wiz arent some mainstream robots making songs that will make the most money and get the most plays on the radio. They are underground and are way better than most of the mainstream artists out there.I didnt exactly mean that he can out rhyme everyone in the game(which he pretty much can)i was saying all together hes ahead in the game IN MY EYES! Im not going to argue you with you man but you like the song so how about you listen to some of his sh!t before you diss him and then you might understand how good he really is.

This is more up Curren$y's lane than Mikey's but they both put on a nice performance. Great chorus "Hangover cuz we hung out". He and WizK are deep into the melodic dreamy weed tunes, but they are a pleasing listen regardless of whether you smoke. 5 stars for Curren$y putting out an album

First off Supraman, I said absolutely nothing about "mainstream robots making songs that will make the most money and get the most plays on the radio". So that came outta left field. 2nd, I hear Wiz rhyme about money in the majority of his songs (I don't think I heard 1 mention about dough on Recovery, besides a guest verse from Wayne). I'm not gonna say that for Currensy, cuz I don't reallly listen to much of him. 3rd, they are only underground because they can't get anywhere with what they are making. If they had a chance to rap on Nothin On You and release it as a single, guaranteed they would. But they don't. Because of their lack of talent, topics, and originality. Actually Wiz definitely has talent (This Plane), so i take that back. Again, i'm not gonna say Currensy has talent cuz i've listened to like 5 songs by him.

I've done an informal poll of my friends over the last 24 hours and I've learned that, like a lot of Wiz's material, how much you dig this track is directly related to how much weed you smoke. Blazers can't seem to get enough of Currensy, and especially this song, but personally I'm with Joe92. I've got nothing against Currensy, I just don't see what everyone's getting so excited about.

I'm too with @Joe92. Although I gotta admit, for a rapper who I normally don't care for, I guess I've found my favorite song of his to date. The rhymes are simple but they fits the vibe to a tee. For the topics that have been done to many times, this is much welcomed, and honestly an execution of this kind is one I wouldn’t be opposed to hearing compared to others efforts. Smoothness defined!

joe, you said that noone knows who he is outside of these hip hop sites and what im saying is he makes songs about what he likes and doesnt make songs that every 12 year old girl in america will sing(Nothin On You). Im not dissin because B.o.B is one of my favorite rappers. Thats song just seems made just for radio plays(I understand they gotta make money but just seems kinda fake to me). Put Me On< thats B.o.B to me. Its not his and wiz lack of talent man look at Gucci you think he is big because hes talented?ahahaaha. And you sound like your on eminems sh!t and thats cool because hes a beast but im more into chill sh!t. Listen to some more Curren$y and you will find hes a very talented rapper.

Supraman, u got a point. I didn't really pick a great example, but Nothin On You is one of the biggest hits this year. And u made a good point about gucci, cuz their is no doubt that wiz and currensy and about 99% of hip hop has more talent than gucci.
I only picked eminem cuz he just released an album an he was projected to sell over 700k. So I thought that would be a good example of very successful rappers who don't rap about money and weed every second. |

These are 2 of my favorite artists so am i a lil biased? yes! do i give a sh!t? ummmm no...Anything Mickey touches turns to gold.
P.S. In case people wonder why certain artists who may not be as "talented" blow of more than others, it is because of their personality, relatability, and connection to the listeners. Also the LCD factor plays a role, alot like WWE wrestling. I'm not talking about these artists though, they have skills, so don't get it twisted. 4.5 stars another official song of summer! |

The production is my highlight, absolutely relaxing in the best ways! Woulda preffered someone like Freddie Gibbs on the mic but Curren$y actually does ok, you just gotta learn to love his flow and character.
