When rapper Curren$y left No Limit Records for Lil’ Wayne‘s Young Money Entertainment, he thought brighter days would be ahead for sure. Unfortunately, as we’ve confirmed numerous times on DJBooth, sometimes the best-laid plans never come to pass and Curren$y’s debut album, Music to Fly To, was shelved. Frustrated, the New Orleans native has since jumped ship, but currently is enjoying his independent status with his Fly Society label, who will release his forthcoming mixtape Higher Than 30,000 Feet. Listeners will forget Curren$y’s from the Dirty South after one listen to his version of Jay-Z‘s Feelin’ It (the fourth and final single from Hova’s classic debut, Reasonable Doubt), as he exhibits a perfect East Coast style over a hook from Mecca and an instrumental from producer Ski.
First, let me do this. FIRST!
This is Currency reinventing himself. I definitely like it. People will gain more respect for him. This surprised me just like Huey surprised me with "Nobody Loves the Hood". Definitely nice.
Funny how I was first on here, because no one seems to want to peep the Currency track cuz they think they know it will be wack...lol. Jus an observation. I'll give this one a chance though.
My man, Michael Hannah. I agree with your assessment of the song and that our members slept on the opportunity to provide feedback for this feature. A new sound is damn right! I like.
Currency. Never heard of this young man, but i like the soulful vibe that this track exudes. It was a smooth transition from the Roots track to this one. I dig this track.
jesavail02 you mean you have never heard the song 'where da cash at' with Weezy and Remy Ma? cos thats Curreny, and a well known song.
but this song is chill and slow, if it was a different rapper I would probably like it more.
This song isn't bad but it's not my type at all...the beat is good but I prefer upbeat songs! His flow is boring, the chorus is weak to me. By the way the music is super! It's ok
I have a feeling that half of you haven't heard the original by Jay Z off of the Reasonable Doubt. I listen to it once a week because Jay's vibe and words are pretty much how I feel about life on a daily. Plz plz plz go limewire/bearshare/kazaa/zshare/whatever it. Excellent track. Currency doesn't do it for me, and he makes me wanna just throw the original and authentic Jay version on...
Maybe he should change his name to "Bankruptcy."
This song is ok, but if he can't make it with a Lil' Wayne sample and feature verse, then this one won't do it for him either.
