From the title of Crooked I‘s highly-anticipated mixtape, The Block Obama, it is obvious that the West Coast emcee is looking to bring change to hip-hop. One of the jobs on his to-do list is to stop rappers from continually bragging about the major money they make from cocaine sales – besides, there’s much more to be made from Trafficin’ Green. Hailing from a state that does not allow arrests or imprisonment for the possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, the real Obama might find Crooked I’s business model a stimulating one. Whether you smoke or not, though, you can’t deny that Trafficin’ Green demonstrates a smarter strategy than most tales of hustlin’ on the block. Expect more planning to take place when The Block Obama mixtape drops this fall.
Crooked I Oballa..definately tryin to bring change. I agree with him on how the majority of rappers spit about hustlin snow. You don't ever hear rappers spit about hustlin mary jane..which makes this song unique. Overall its OK..not a classic. Feel free to disagree but if you listen to S.L.U. and then Listen to this...its no classic
Great production and very good beat! I'm feeling his flow, too...he's the greatest part of the track, really! Maybe the sample in the background is a lil annoying...in rotation!
Here is an idea... if you are in the recording industry and you are writing music that will be recorded and pitched to white, music-buying, teenage girls... they don't care about what drugs you sold before you got into the game. I am not saying that is what Crooked I is trying to do --let's get that clear-- but these topics are meant for mixtapes. Great sample work too on the production tip.
Everybody's talkin white. What yall forgot bout the mary jane? Bob Marley, what makes Eminem the way he is? C'mon even the national energy crisis is goin 'green'!(sad joke I KNOW THIS) Props to Crooked I for bringin out that if you want to hustle, white ain't the only way to go. Besides when have you ever heard of medical white?
I like it! Crooked I is one of the most talented MC's in the game. Why focus on the beat when the lyrics are so sick? I don't understand how the beat would make the lyrics stand out. Soulja Boy is a perfect example of a tight beat, but his lyrics still come across as whack. Not hatin on him it's just a fact.
