When it comes to shut-eye, Crooked I‘s mantra is “F**k sleep, get that that money.” Needless to say, when selecting his clique, he seeks out individuals who share his priorities. On a fresh single off his studio debut, the Long Beach street mainstay spits about the activities he and his No Sleep Gang engage in during the time when most would be snoozing—from drug trafficking in the city streets to popping bottles at the local club. Cardo provides a bombastic instrumental backdrop for the Slaughterhouse member’s aggressive flows, layering staggered synth arpeggios and pensive piano notes over a trunk-rattling rhythm section. Apex Predator is scheduled to hit record stores and online retailers July 30, via C.O.B./Empire Distribution. The LP will be available for streaming and purchase via The DJBooth, but fans can also click here to pre-order it via iTunes.
