Courtney Harris - Grown and Sexy ft. Keith Murray
Artist: Courtney Harris
Featuring: Keith Murray
Producer: Gerald "Strata G"Sheffield & CC Lemonhead
Album: Untitled (TBD)
Label: Strata G Ent/E1 Music
We hear the story all the time; young female with a love for music starts singing locally, then gets discovered by a national label and rocketed to superstardom. The most recent case is that of Courtney Harris; already a rising star in her hometown of Jacksonville, Florida, she has recently been scooped up by everybody’s favorite mid-major, Koch Records, and is currently preparing to release her currently-untitled debut album in the second quarter of ‘09. Now that she’s on a major label, the first people she’s calling are all her exes. Why? To remind them that because they left her when she was local, they’re missing out on the Grown and Sexy woman she had become. Def Squad alumnus Keith Murray brings in a funky eight-bar intro, which gives way to a beat by Gerald “Strata G” Sheffield and CC Lemonhead, over which Courtney leaves her past loves red-faced. After all, if they liked it, then they shoulda put a ring on it, if you know what we mean…

The production was decent. It sounded sort of dated...but it was okay. Keith Murray was okay...but the vocals on his mix and the song period was pretty bad. I don't really like the joint at all. Courtney is not a great singer at all.

She has the look and the sound, but this record isn't a single. Since we indicated that above, I can't knock 'er for it.
Good to hear Keith still getting feature work... |

She sounds alot like Ashanti to me. I dont know...
But yeah this track is ok. I think she sounds good, I dont know what MH was listening to. I thought Keith Murray's verse was less than stellar, but was ok none the less. Overall a good track. |

Whats up with murrays verse the recording quality was a lil off. But yeah MH pretty much summed it up. I want to hear something that will blow my mind.

Yeah she's not that great but the overall song is enjoyable in my opinion. I'm feelin the beat and the melody, and Keith Murray sounds good. To me it's in rotation

Wow! She's not the worst singer in the world. I've heard much, much worse. Her voice isn't that bad at all. However, this track doesn't stand out enough to get through all the established talent that is currently on the waves. With the likes of Keyshia & Beyonce out here, one has to come hotter than this, production-wise and vocally to get a real foot in the door.

Her voice isn't all that bad, but it's not great. Her voice isn't good enough to be a star though!

I have to agree with MH. To me, this song sounds very outdated, something that should have came out betweeen 1998 and 2001. The engineering is also terrible on her voice, and Keith Murray at the beginning sounds extremely corny. I don't know if this would be really a hot joint to put into rotation, but it sounds like a decent album song. Sounds perfect for being part of a soundtrack in a movie.
