All it takes is a brief tour of a library and a quick skim through almost any scientific textbook to discover that there are many theories: the theory of evolution, the big bang theory, the theory that Gudda Gudda may actually be looking at a solo career, and countless others. Queens up-and-comer Costell may not be a scientist, but his latest Booth feature, We Have a Theory (making its world premiere in the Booth!), is proof that he can still explore, make discoveries, and report his findings to all of his hungry fans. Over subdued, dreamlike production from Sean Ross, Costell grants us a quick look into his life with some deliberate, conversational rhymes. If his previous Booth feature Timeless didn’t have you convinced that he’s here to stay, Theory will not only pick up the slack, but also redirect you right back to Timeless so you can appreciate what you slept on the first time around. Be sure to keep an eye out for Costell’s forthcoming album ELO, set to drop later this year.

Sean Ross handed Costell a pretty nifty beat to work with. Matt is right (see above) about the dreamy feel.
Costell (like The Gents) is two-for-two in the Booth with features. I like it. |

Great feel 2 this one! Not ure typical hip hop track, which (in this case) is exactly why I like it! Could have used a better hook tho.

It's hard to not feel this spaced-out production. Costell spits some real rhymes and keeps the vibe going throughout the song.

Hym mix harmoneus instrumentals with thoughtfull lyrics and a floating scringgy(im making up way to many words) type intro is well a good mix
I like his flow and the dj scratch solo in the middle is subtle and nice, wow word play and the message are on point and really impressive “i knw I have the integrity of an ivy league student, but my mother aint got the money to do it” ---key example wow I keep listen to the piano part in the instrumental and it play over well with his flow haha I see sun shine coming over brooklyn right now its beautiful ltype shit im imagening from this track I give it 3 spins but it really deserves 3.5 if it starts playing on my mp3 im definitely not going to change the song. |

I like the beat especially the piano/string combination. The hook was okay. It is nice to hear something a little different. Always a plus to have music with REAL content.

ok im new to Costell but he impress to a point. i dont really know if he has a subdued flow to the slow tempo eerie beat but it kinda works for me. i always look for if the flow matches the beat and he succeeded in that category. But the track is kind well boring although i do appreciate it, i was

The slow flow of this song, along with the beat is kinda like listening to a dream. The lyrics and production are great, I'm definitely gonna listen to this a coupla times.

The beat sounds like the background music for the swordfish board on Donkey Kong. You'll have to play to know. Great tune

@Aussie_Accents - I always love reading people explain what they mean by "falling asleep to this song." Its amazing how that expression can really go either way on the scale.

It's refreshing to see an artist who knows how to relax. It's almost like floating.
The problem is that the beat and the rhymes seem to be competing for the spotlight, and I really wanted the vocals to come out on top. I liked what Costell had to say. It's mostly standard topic for up-and-comers, but it really does give me the impression that he is a man with an identity that the higher-ups have a hard time grasping. The frustration is there, but so is the willingness to succeed. Its worth a listen for that in and of itself. |

Nice joint... Love that beat. And yes, Costell's flow reminds me of Masta Ace at times. As far as the Hook, who can name the group/song that the vocal scratch comes from? I bet a few of you know...

It sounds so familiar Sandman but I cant figure out where the sample is from. Its slowed down too much.
One of the best beats I've heard this year, its like floating. Costell resembles a young masta ace, as people have said. After this and timeless I now am going to be on the lookout for anything he puts out. |

This guy just did his (snoop dogg voice)THIZZLE(/).
Then production is just so relaxing and mixed with his lyrics can only make for a great outcome. He kept it real, and I respect the real talk. Stay up, and keep being true to yourself Costell! |

What did the producer use in his production, a xylophone? Whatever it is, the production was fresh. His flow and lyrics are solid

Kinda feels like you could be flying with this nice smooth beat...This is either a good song to get high too which I would never know...or something you could fall asleep to with the harp playing in the background. Costell fits perfectly with this and he makes this work really well.

Love the background bells and tones, it has a real hypnotic aura to it. Costell flows really well with the production and nails it through out the entire song.
Love the story-telling feel the record gives off, its like he is standing right next to you walking and spitting what he sees. Love the track and love the production just as much, 3 1/2 rounded up. |

Spittin literature for your mind..Costell is another ill indie waiting for the boardroom to wake up, nobody appreciates the artists that are saying somethin. Way too many dope lyrics stomping over that chill beat, just going to classify as Dope!!

I'm surprised at @PlanB's rating. Not as strong as his debut feature (on DJBooth) but FAR from a disappointment. Its just on a different vibe.
The relaxed feel of his delivery belies the exactness and meticulously measured flow with mindful lyricism, complimenting the subtly pleasant and relaxing production nicely. |

costell always bringin timeless music. ppl say real rap is dyin but when a artist comes out and spits REAL rap like this guy then no one wants to give him a chance. well like it or not costell's on the rise so i hope that the Hall Of Fame is dustin off theirs shelves and makin room for one more.
