Over the last two years, DJBooth has featured several talented artists, who despite their best efforts have never gotten off the ground. One of the most notable instances is Cory Gunz; son of Lord Tariq‘s rhyme partner, Peter Gunz, and native of hip-hop’s birthplace, the Bronx. After bouncing from Tommy Mottola‘s Casablanca Records to the Carter Administration’s Def Jam, Gunz is back to work on his long-delayed album, The Commencement, which he hopes to release before the end of the year. Cory brings an LL-like “don’t call it a comeback” enthusiasm with his new buzz single, Richer Than Richie. Over a sinister beat from Trackdealaz (complete with sample from Biggie’s Hyponotize), Cory’s rhymes are on point and angry; sounds like his gunz are drawn.
(Advice: listen to this at least till 2:00. The flow gets madly faster!) Very solid delivery, shows he can do great things with even better beats and hooks.
Dude can spit. Fairly unique voice, overall good song. I think on a beat tailored more for him, he'd kill it. He's got a lil bit of a lil wayne sound to him, but doesn't sound like he's trying to and when he speeds up.... awww @*#$!, he kills it
I like the way he raps on the beat provided for him. He actually has a good flow in my opinion. I think he may have a good career ahead of him. Can't wait to hear more!
No matter what i support cory gunz he is a straight savage i been following him since i was about 16 17 when he had his apprentice mixtapes out and ripping dudes on the smack dvd ..I think the beat has to much going on and that he could of came harder i was dissapointed a little but i am not giving up on him yet
Cory Gunz is serious. This is nice real nice. His lyric are highly on point. I been peepin duke out since he was like 17 or so. I think younger than that running around on DVD's... I wish he would blow up soon...
