As the son of platinum-selling rapper Peter Gunz (of Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz), Cory Gunz has quite a legacy to live up to. The younger Gunz has quietly begun to move out of his father’s shadow, however, with recent guest appearances on tracks by Lil’ Wayne and Rihanna. With Cory’s debut album, God Forgives, I Don’t, on the horizon, the time is ripe for a passing of the torch. The LP’s potential lead single, Get Right Tonight, may not be Deja Vu, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction. Featuring a synthy club beat by Ryan Leslie and some layered wordplay by Gunz, the track has enough commercial appeal to potentially blow up. Fans of Lil’ Wayne will either be pleased or pissed of by Gunz’s playful delivery, which sounds suspiciously like Weezy’s.
Ryan Leslie is on top of his shit right now at DJBooth whether its his production or his singing. If only that success could be transcended into the whole rest of the industry because I dont hear his name or his music anywhere else.
I like gunz unique delievery, very lil wayne like as you say, but he brings a differnt energy than wayne. Leslie's hook is on point as is the beat. I like the laid back beat when cory raps, and after hearing his quick verse on that one version of a millie, i've respected him since then.
I been screamin Gunz for months now. He has the a millie version I play on repeat the album version or any of them other corney re-flows that that beat provides. However this song is lame. I'm disapointed. The beat is fair, definately a lazy effort form ryan. Cory doen't displays his talent for ridin beats and the speed flow that he has mastered as well as anyone. I know what this kid can do, and this is y I rate this lower than you may think I should.
This is real boring. I actually like the beat, but I felt Cory could've have done something better and more creative with the flow. Someone like LOSO would have smashed this beat. I like Ryan Leslie's part definitely. I don't know...I think Cory needs to go back after getting some sleep and re-record this with more exciting. Oh, and maybe holla at Fab for a featuring verse. If it was better, I may have gave it 4 stars. For right now, it just goes in rotation.
I'm feeling the beat and Ryan Leslie's part, he sings very well! But the other rapper, Cory, is really boring, I'm not feeling him at all! I think the song without him could have been much better! it's only ok to me, Ryan saved it from being garbage (his voice + producer skills)
BDF44, you've been on him for months? Fam, this man has been trying to break into this industry for almost six years now. He had a situation with Universal (before they divided into Motown and Republic), but nothing ever came if it. He is currently a free agent, though, so hopefully he can latch on somewhere soon. R. Les, hot s**t my man.
LOL I saw you up there next to Shaq gettin on Kobe! LOL That was funny, as a laker fan I gotta ride with kobe, but the snitchin ain't gonna go away. 3 stars 4 shaq.
Cory Gunz always come correct. I would have liked to hear the speen flow. I heard him ove the Thug Luv beat once and he murdered the hell out it. The beat is cool. Ryan Leslie is not to bad.
