First off, I hope you had a happy Memorial Day. (You remembered the real reason we were all celebrating, right? Respect to everyone who’s served and is serving.) But if you were stuck inside due to some seriously terrible weather, at the very least you’ll be able to feel some real summertime vibes on the first leak off The Cool Kids’ next project with a title that brings Myrtle Beach/Las Vegas/Panama City spring break to mind. Freak City is about as original as the rest of the Cool Kids archive, with Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish doing their creative murmuring over an entertaining - yet exquisitely short - track that Inglish himself produced (along with Old Young). The Kids always have original lyrics, and this time around is no exception, as they drop lines like “I’m a Mayweather jab, you’re a slap on the hand.” If you liked getting weird with this track, be sure to go out and nab their latest project, Tacklebox, set to be released Monday night.

Love the Cool Kids, but I cannot get into this. What are we trying to do here? Recreate "The Whisper Song"? There is a difference between being different because you simply are and trying to be because the norm seems boring. Normally, I'd go with the former, but on "Freak City" it seems like the latter. And yes, this is a 'hater-free' zone so please spare the comments.
I look forward to the mixtape... so long as it isn't a bunch of records that sound like this.

If they would a stopped that whisper BS this song would have definitely been hot. The beat is slick if they would have just spoke up

Love the Cool Kids and I got into it. This type of track bangs on a summer night, windows down. Can't wait to get it to the car.

They always get the hottest sounds on their songs, but the whisper is just a no. They make hot and clever songs but this isn't clever for me. Heard they got a few other songs released at the same time, I'll give them a spin before I'm let down.

I hate to follow the crowd, but I've got to follow the rest of the Booth on this one. I'm a Cool Kids fan for sure, and I appreciate them switching up the style on the vocals, but it's a little hard to connect to this one. There's a line between whisper style and sounding bored, and they're walking that line closely.

One thing that can always be said about the Cool Kids, is that they always come through with some of the sickest beats. As for the song, the whispering was really annoying. Speak the @*#$! up. In all seriousness though, this song is very forgettable. Not impressed by these two tonight. Track was just a little too different for my liking and the on-going beat was a little annoying at the end of the song. This isn't garbage, but it isn't really far from it either.

I hate when artists act weird to just get attention, hmm erykah badu perhaps. This just seems odd and not even pleasing to listen to. The beat's actually kind of dope but their whisper voice ruins it.

This mixtape wasn't really a good look for the kids, but their beats are still undeniable. So if they stop bullsh!tt!n and actually make songs like back in the day, they will be just fine. At least sell the beats to someone dope so they can do something cool with it. However, I guess there is nothing cooler than making music simply for the love of it, and having fun along the way.
