This Friday marks the release of Wanted, the newest film in rapper/actor Common’s burgeoning acting career. Once the red carpet premieres and press junkets wind down, however, the versatile Chicagoan will concentrate solely on his forthcoming release, Invincible Summer. Following a collaboration with Pharrell Williams on the buzz record, Universal Mind Control, the Grammy award-winning rapper again links up with N*E*R*D’s frontman for Announcement. Opening with the line, “Yeah this is hip hop baby, I’m finna take it to the tip top baby!” Common nudges the collective ribs of the industry with his talented left elbow. And did we mention Pharrell spits a mean 16? Originally scheduled for release this month, Invincible Summer is currently set to drop in early fall.
Note: The streaming of “Announcement” has temporarily been suspended.
Listen to Common's Announcement ft. Pharrell Williams
Okay, I can rock with this way more that the first single he dropped from this project! PHARELL JAPPED OFF! This is a classic and this better get mad radio play! CLASSIC!
REALLY feelin the Common/Neptunes collabos lately. It's a good look for Common for a change, this beat has Commons name written all over it. I love when producers craft a track around an artists style rather than have a collection of beats and throw an artist any random one. I think this would do really well on radio and Common should run with it.
i completely disagree...
i liked Universal Mind Control wayyy better.
This song is a drop.. to me that is.
I never was a strong Common fan, but i was becoming one.
This song disappoints me.
The lyrics get a 3.5 and the beat gets a 1. so.. 2 stars?
This IS HipHop baby! Definitely! Really liked Pharrel’s part, he’s not as great MC as he is a producer, but he was at the level of this catchy simple beat! This production style fits Common better than UMC, and if the beat serves him well, you can’t expect less than a banger! I’m really excited by this approach between Common and the Neptunes!
Neptunes did it again. Oh lord the beat is fire simple and catchy. Common came through and checked this beat, sit back with chicago on his back.Awwwwwwwwww Cuzz is fire.
I loved UMC ya'll. That was risky and showed common in a light we have never seen him in. This doesn't quite do that. This is a safer track for the 2 of them. I'm very glad he brought UMC out 1st. Just to set the tone for doin whatever he wants to with the album. This IS a Hot track though. Smooth proudction and common does kill it as expected. That hook is Classic. This Is Hip Hop baby. I would love to hear a verse form pharrell and YE on this to completly take this to new heights. This will be an invinsible Summer for the Good music family if they drop this and John legend's joint.
This ish is pretty weak. I don't see what is good about this song, the beat is too simple and the hook is lame, and even if the lyrics are good they can't make up for that. Songs like this bore me, this is hip hop but it isn't good hip hop. I don't expect this to get any radio play, just can't see the public liking this. Two good artist coming together with a weak track... 1.5 stars at best. It ain't garbage, but it's not catchy or unique, just realllly boring.
I dont know what you guys are hearing at all on this song. The beat is to average here. The lyrics were not bad on this well besides the talk on their dicks getting sucked and how it tastes so actually the lyrics are kinda bad. They say this is "Hip Hop Baby" well this is not my kind of "Hip Hop Baby"
Common is really cute :P the song has a weird beat, I kinda like it, but the track could be better! Listening to Common's flow is rather boring, I truly listen only to the beat as I don't even understand what they're saying! it's ok
I'm not sure Pharell was ever a good producer, so he can't be falling off...This is prob his best production...Listen to something like Chris Brown - Picture Perfect to hear the crap he can make..haha, so boring
Common is a great hip hop artist
DJ Spaz- FYI Pharrell did not produce Picture Perfect...it was Will.I.Am. Will even spits in the song, and don't knock Pharrell he is still one of the top producers in the game he's just been MIA for a minute because he was workin on that NERD album.
Pharrell? No...Pharrell...no...pharrell...no. DJ Z who else was featured on this song? I was about to call you out for supplying inadequate information about this song.
I was about to make a cup of coffee to wake me up this morning but now I'm all good. This track was ORGANIC!
oh haha, my fault, I thought i had looked that up right back in the day...but there's a few others i dislike too, i know Pharell is a respected producer, I've just never enjoyed, my opinion, not to be confused with a general feelings
I got worried by the comments, but this beat is tight! Obviously Common comes correct. Pharrel sounds better than I expected, but his verse was unnecessary. The beat manages to be chill and hype at the same time. Banger..
This is a hot track. I love the new uptempo and diverse beats Commmon is working with. Although I love his older sound of soul samples, I like that he is branching out and actually sounding good...unlike Eclectic Circus
I have to say I'm definitely feeling this track, not sure if its better than UMC cause it was good to see Common's diversity rapping over a different kind of beat. DEFINITELY feeling the production and the spin they put on Notorious B.I.G. - Dreams
Common is the best MC out there. This is album is gonna be just as hot as all his other albums....i can't wait! Real hip hop baby! And the production is simple but good on here...not sure why people don't agree.
I liked Universal Mind Control much better. THis sounds like they just simplified and slowed down UMC. I hope the album has more different sounds on it.
