The heralded Windy City MC readies his return to the game with the new LP, Finding Forever. Executive produced by Kanye West, Common kicks off the impending-classic with the single The People, featuring singer Dwele. The mood of the production is laid back and has a nostalgic old school feel, all courtesy of West. Common says he “does it for the people,” and after one listen, the people couldn’t be any happier.

Ahh Common doing the uncommon. The production by Kanye gives Common a platform to soar. The beat is crazy and never gets boring. Lyrically Common stays consistent displaying his strength in the music game. Two years later I feel he's still a force to be reckoned with. One of my favorite things about Common is that he is such a great story teller. Conscious rap owes a lot to Common and The People is a perfect display of that.

I think this song is very overrated.
Apparently, he's talking about his people. He's proud that his people are tired of working, trying to get custom rims, and smoking a lot of dope? this song isn't as serious and as "real" as people make it out to be. it's barely above average. |
