Collins may hail from Phoenix, Arizona but, on his debut DJBooth feature, the up-and-coming rhymesayer welcomes listeners to his Brooklyn Basement. An exclusive world premiere, the record draws inspiration from hip-hop’s East Coast roots in both sound and attitude. Beatsmith Qux mans the mixing boards, layering vocals and brass chords from soul man Charles Bradley’s The World (Is Going Up in Flames) over a syncopated breakbeat. Collins tailors his flow to match the gritty, yet soulful beat. In gruff verses, he announces his intent to “replace the fake sh*t” plaguing the hip-hop game, and schools haters who object to his fashion choices: “They call me white ‘cause I rock gauges with plugs / That started in Africa, you lame, ignorant f**ks.” Featuring guest appearances from Ryan McDermott and more, Sincerely, The Mixtape is set to drop digitally this Friday, February 14.

Update: We have added the Iroc Daniels-directed visuals for Collins.’ Brooklyn Basement single.
